I don't understand why there is a belief that Iowa won't make a good hire to replace Woods. With one glaring exception, KF is generally pretty thoughtful and spot on in his hiring.

That said, this business is about relationships and I assume he is following Woods. It is what it is. Go back to Melbourne and get a new one.

I hope so. Special teams were pretty bad in the few years before Kirk gave Woods the job. I think Woods did an uncommonly good job...almost everything he touched turned to gold in special teams, from kickers to punters to returners. We started to take it for granted. And if it was as easy as just grabbing another punter from Australia, then every college team would have a good punter from Australia.

I'm worried that Kirk will try to replicate what he did with Woods, thinking he can take any good coach without ST coaching experience and they will be able to figure it out. Maybe they do, maybe they don't.

My hope is that Woods has elevated special teams enough at Iowa that it is a highly sought position. I don't know what the market is for ST coordinator, but I'd think it'd be a worthy use of funds to pay top 10 in the country for the position. If Iowa wants to win in the margins, then devote an appropriate piece of the pie to special teams. That'd be my preference - find a candidate with an impressive background in special teams already.

If you were a good punter, why wouldn’t you have Iowa in your top possibilities. Idk any other teams that will punt it like the hawks do.
