I wonder if Stoops as an ex-defensive player now coaching in a revenge game at home against his former team might of thought..."nice, they are going to receive, we will kick it deep...give 'em the touchback, they will probably run on first and second down so we are going to completely sell out the whole series and gamble we don't get burned deep on third. Then we are going after the punt as hard as we can"......we played right into Stoops hands in my opinion by taking the ball first

Stoops would have to be an idiot in the football department if he only came to that conclusion before last week's game. EVERYBODY knows what we do. A guy like Stoops knew well in advance, just like every coach out there. We weren't "playing into his hands". If that were true, then we've been playing into opponents' hands for 12 years. I guess I didn't know that scoring on the first drive 60% of the time (I feel like that's conservative) of our opening drives when we take the ball first was conducive to the OTHER team winning. Learn something new every day, I guess *sarcasm*.

Honestly, with the defense we have, we can afford (WAY more often than not) to take the ball first. If we score, then we put the other offense behind the 8-ball, forcing them to play from behind against a great defense. If we stall, we bring in Donahue, and pin them deep, thereby forcing them to drive a long field against a great defense. Given how Ferentz plays the field position and time of possession battle, sending the offense out first is the right choice. It's worked for 12 years, I don't see why he would change, nor do I see why he should.
