but that is coaching. Sometimes you don't have the best talent to make the defense work.
So instead of trying to fit square pegs into round holes, you adjust your schemes to fit the personal that you do have.
When teams constantly dink and dunk the entire length of the field, maybe adjust and play some bump coverage. Can still play zone, but quit letting their WR have a free pass.
That is coaching. Look at OSU's coach, Tressel adjusts his scheme to the talent he has. With Pryor, they run a more open attack, almost option like at times because of his skill. Yet with some of the QB's in the past, they're even more conservative than Iowa!!!
I understand that this staff has a formula that seems to work very well at getting to 7-8 wins each year, and that's great. This year was a team that is much better than that, with a few small changes/adjustments i think we could have been there.
Not settling on a kicker early in the year, a lack of discipline on special teams coverage, mis managing the clock, brain farts on fake punt and punt blocks, and sitting players that have hot hands.
Those have all cost us games, or at least been a large contributor. That is on coaching. This team is good enough to recover from mistakes, but as soon as we do make a mistake, this team folds and is done.
