Clayborn's 'Only team in state' comment makes ISU Locker Room

Don't care. Any comment by anyone associated with the Iowa program that implies, in any way, that Iowa State is a lesser football program than Iowa would be used for motivational material. Adrian made it pretty easy for them, but screw it. If someone had said something to the effect of "... as the highest profile team in the State, we...." blah blah blah, which is undeniably true, it would've ended up prominently posted in the weight room in Ames. Fine. Get fired up to beat the bad guys.

Hey Travis, how about that game in 1898?

I mean, if we're talking ancient history why not go ALL THE WAY back?

Don't know about you, but I'm talking about the Ferentz era...you know...the current era that Iowa is in.

I agree, lets focus on more recent history. Seriously? You're gonna talk about the late 90's and early 00's, and chastise someone for bringing up the period right before that? C'mon, lets just all concede the obvious: Overall, Iowa is winning the series by a long ways, and Iowa state had a relatively brief, relatively recent period of success in the matchup. Does "ancient history" officially start at the mid-90's?

I love that mesa is acting like Iowa fans are slighting ISU because we expect to beat them.

Iowa is a top 15 team this year, coming off a BCS bowl win, and return 3/4 of last years team. AND...Iowa is relevant in college football.

Iowa state...not so much.

Just reality, don't get bitter for fans pointing out the truth.

It warms my heart when I hear Iowa fans say they aren't worried about this game. Brings back memories of those wonderful years in the early 2000's...and of the great Iowa team of 2002 in Iowa City that year.
Leave it to a clone fan to consider the early 2000's to be wonderful years. Tell us Mesa, was it 2002 when ISU lost 6 of the last 7 games including a beatdown from Boise State in some meaningless bowl? Maybe that 2-victory season in '03?

The Ferentz era? As a Clone shouldn't you be concerning yourself with the Rhoads era? You know, 0 and 1.

Maybe Parker can use this as bulletin board material...

LJ's hit was clean as a whistle. A flag thrown in error doesn't change that a bit. But you're correct, without the mistaken flag, that's an Iowa turnover and likely a game-changer!

Show that to any to non-ISU/Iowa fans and LJ's hit wins hands down.

Not sure if the rule is used in college or not, but does a player have to initiate helmet to helmet contact to get a flag? Or can they be flagged for leading with a shoulder, but initiate contact with the ballcarrier's head? If that's the case, then the official made the wrong call, but it was still a penalty. He just didn't call the right one.

There is no penalty for leading with your shoulder and then having incidental helmet contact. Neither is it a penalty to initiate contact with a ballcarrier's head. The penalty in question is leading with the helmet and initiating contact in that manner. Thus the call was in error. It was close, so I don't blame the official...certainly an easy one to get wrong.

LJ's hit (penalty or not isn't relavent) not only resulted in LJ knocking himself out, it cost his team 15 yards and the ball. But that's what you get when you're giving up 60 pounds, eight inches, and you're going for the highlight reel hit.

Be careful, your bias is showing.

Not only "went" for it...got it. The fact that he did it with reckless abandon, even hurting himself, is even more impressive. And are you saying if they'd thrown a flag on the Rashawn Parker hit, that would have made it a bad play? Players make the plays...if a ref makes a bad call that's unfortunate...but it doesn't change the caliber of the play itself. Ditto for the consequences of the bad call.

This thread went down hill fast...

It must be July...and people must be read for football...and it Mesaclones case, he must be craving GOOD football, at least thats the only explanation I have for his obsession with HN.

So LJ's hit was better because it wasn't a bad play? Despite the fact it not only drew a personal foul penalty, but it cost ISU the ball and 15 yards at the same time?

The only thing LJ "got" was himself...KTFO.

Yanda's hit was way better. He completely mowed Parker over, and barely even lost balance. He was able to just look down at the guy and smile. LJ's hit stopped Moeaki in his tracks, but getting hit in the head tends to do that (see Shonn Greene getting knocked cold vs. Northwestern). And LJ was on the ground for a while after the hit. Yanda blew Parker up.

I applaud LJ for sticking his nose up in there and delivering a hit. It was a legal hit. He turned his body to try and lead with his shoulder, TM was moving in the direction he turned. The refs threw the flag because two guys were laying on the field and one was clearly knocked out.
Both were good hits but Yanda's hit was better because he crushed Parker and it didnt even phase Yanda.
Yanda wins.
