Clayborn's 'Only team in state' comment makes ISU Locker Room

Did any of you read the thread on CF when AC initially said this? The thread was upwards of 25 pp, and the sheer idiocy expressed was phenomenal. I had very little respect for ISU before reading that thread, and even less after it.

Bulletin board??!!

OH CRAP.

I guess AC just said what everyone else already knew.If they put that up in there locker room then after awhile they'll also believe it.If that's what it takes to get up for a game then there in trouble.

Guys, of course this matters. ISU4LYF told us that this will result in broken bones for ole AC.

Seriously though, I think it does add motivation in the preperation which does add to the field stuff, but if you get on the field still thinking about stupid stuff like this you will be worse off in the end.

This. The comment does not DIRECTLY affect what a player does on the field. He doesn't grind for extra yards because of a comment made by their opponent (unless of course it's made in-game, so then the next play you really take it to that guy). But it DOES have an impact in preparation. It's no different than being told you aren't good enough, you'll never make it. I was told that sort of thing all the time in high school (I graduated in 2008). Did it make me play any harder than I ever did? Of course not. But it DID drive me in the offseason to push past what I thought were my limits, which in turn made me a much better player. And that is what bulletin board material is for.

Some of you are living in your own fantasy land. Of course it makes a different.

Imagine of OSU's team leader made a comment that only Penn State, Michigan and OSU matter in the Big Ten...and that everyone else was the little 8. You think that might add a layer of motivation for Iowa this fall when OSU comes to town. Football is a game of motivation every bit as much as it is one of skill and talent. Coaches know that motivation matters, and thus coaches have played the disrespect card for...well...as long as there have been coaches.

Yes, losing 35-3 is a motivational factor. Simply playing a rivalry game is as well. But its also true that every extra brick builds the motivation to a higher level. I would add as a caveat, that a team can actually get "too hyped" for a game and thus make errors...but Rhoads seems pretty good at managing his team's preparedness so I'm not too concerned on that level. Anyway, this stuff from AC absolutely can make this game more competitive...how much so is anyone's guess. But I would suggest that those on here expecting Iowa to have a cakewalk, are deeply misguided. Guess we'll know in short order.

Meso. I think you are wrong. Fantasy land is reserved for Clowns. Get back to your tent.

Let's look at this from a different angle. Let's say that someone from OSU did make that comment - by the way it is a very comment sentiment among their fanbase...I say this because as we walked around Columbus last year before the game fans were whining that they wished they could wax us with Stanzi in the game and when we brought up legitimate points they would in some cases literally say...let's not pretend you're on the same level as Michigan or OSU.

Let's say that one of their players let it slip - do you think that Iowa's coaches would be discussing it right now? Do you think Iowa's coaches would be discussing it the week leading up to the game before OSU?

In case you are living in fantasy land - the answer to that question is unequivically NO. The reason for that is because OSU is not our Superbowl!

They play 12 games.

If you can't get motivated for each and every one of them, then you've got other problems to sort out.

Absolutely Iowa coaches would be discussing it...it would be all over the locker room. As Mr. Miller stated, Doyle does this sort of thing to motivate the players.

bulletin board material is good motivation for the first couple of plays or the first series. Then the extra adrenalin fades and you may be facing an AC that has just upped his game to match yours.
I dont think its going to work out very well for you then.
Besides, I've already sent AC all the posts of Clown fans saying he got owned by KO.
I'm sure he has that game circled as well.;)

I'm guessing he didn't even open your email. Just a hunch. And if by chance he did, I'm also guessing he...like virtually all players...could care less about fanboard stuff.
