Clapgate

Whether you like Nebraska or not, they have a legitimate beef. Simulating the snap count is against the rules. And that sounds like something Thug U of the B1G would pull

I agree that the dantini's were probably cheating there if it was happening multiple times.

I dont know why teams feel they need to cheat.

dantonio said they clap do get into formations, etc. on defense. it appears to me that the guy is intentionally clapping to screw with the offense. dantonio is dirty as they come.

Why is it illegal....I would assume because the center thinks that the QB is making the clap sound when it is really the defense doing it?

I'm not really anti Nebraska. They have faults like everyone else. The thing that doesn't surprise me is Dantonio doing this. He's a scummy coach who will cheat, lie and steal to win. I'm urprised he hasn't moved on to the SEC where they can appreciate these things.

A lot of defensive players do that. I don't want to take anything away from how much of a Delta Bravo Dantonio is but it's no big deal. IMO.

It certainly looks like Nebby has a legitimate gripe on this one. #43 on MSU is clearly clapping and the center is snapping too early based on Armstrong's reaction. I never quite understood why having a QB clap instead of giving a voice command was preferred though.

Same thing as a guy calling out "HUT" or "GO" or whatever...to get the offense to jump. It can be a tricky call as the defense also has a right to call out its own signals...but sometimes its pretty blatant. IMHO the above video is.

well, since there is nothing new about QBs clapping and since the officials are right on top of the action, seems like they would spot this if it were true.

If it is too loud on the road some QBs stomp their foot up and down or clap and it is more of a visual signal rather than auditory.

The center many times looks back at the QB to see the clap or see the stomp of the foot then they hike on the preset count.

The ball was snapped a good second after the MSU player clapped. If the center was snapping based on that, his reaction time is terrible. I think Dantonio is as scummy as the next guy, but I don't think this caused the bad snap.

I think the clap is the indicator that the QB is ready for the ball. Center hears the clap and assumes the next thing the QB says is the key to snap the ball. The NU QB want to audible, MSU player claps, Center thinks QB is ready for snap, QB starts to call out audible, Center snaps the ball early.

This makes sense. I was thinking they snap on the clap, but I think you're right.

Kind of torn on this. Dantonio is a dirty, smarmy coach, that is for sure. He would play a kid who just assaulted his grandma and not think twice about it.

At the same time, if the O can use hand claps to signal plays, why can't the D?
