Christian Williams Leaving Team

Well...that freed up some minutes for someone. My guess is that he sees some writing on the wall. Connor may not be shirting after all. It may be time to give up the hardball Connor.

I still had hopes he would be a good contributor this year. Hopefully this is because he lost his backup point guard spot.

I really liked his potential. But he didn't really develop a consistent jumper and the offense was clunky when he was running the show. I love his defense and length.

I hope....Maishe Daily now gets minutes.

I know I was hard on him when posters were saying he would average double digit points per game last year but I'm sad to see him go. He was really good defensively and seemed like a great teammate.

Just frees up all 40 minutes for the best sophomore PG in the country.

When I first heard the news I was like oh crap.

After thinking about it for a while I think it probably helps sort out the rotation to an extent. Also might allow us to see some Dailey this year, who is an intriguing player.

Good luck to Christian.

Not sure if Fran feels more comfortable moving Ellingson to the backup point or if Maishe will move to the backup PG but either way more playing time for him.

One injury at the guard spot and Connor will probably be forced to burn the red shirt.

I’m guessing the coaching staff has enough confidence in some combination of Dailey, Ellingson, and Moss. If not I’m sure Connor is willing to pull the redshirt.

Do you write that in light of what seems best for Connor or what seems best for Iowa basketball? Connor set foot on campus as a high level baseball player who has aspirations of playing in the majors. Yet he still wants to contribute to the basketball program and play ball for his dad. Let's let Connor set his own path and not have to deal with the expectations of the fan base on top of the rigors of practicing and playing for two sports along with his academic work. The back up point guard situation will work itself out with or without Connor this season.

The only thing about JBo and minutes is I believe Fran was hoping to get him some time at the 2 guard in order to run him off some screens. That may prove more difficult without Williams, but who know maybe Dailey has really emerged.

This almost certainly signals that there is another plan for backup pg minutes. It’s lkely Ellingson is the primary backup.

Brady isn't necessarily quick but he handles the ball well and is a solid factor shooting the three.....He really helped out at the end of last season, giving us some quality minutes.....

Dailey is tall and quick and could fill in the spots that we would have used Christian in. He moves the ball well also. Important to move the ball fast to keep the D off balance.....

Connor and Fran will certainly make the right decision concerning his RS.....

I liked Christian, especially on D with that length which led to quite a few steals and subsequent slams.....

Good Luck to Christian. He probably made the correct decision. He would get much more playing time on another team.....
