Christian French Article on ESPN

Thanks for the article. Man I hope we can keep this kid instate. All this Notre Dame love is killing me.

I didn't get that sense at all...

Not sure what you're talking about, he said he's visited Notre Dame, plans to visit again along with Iowa.

I think you're making something out of nothing. Besides, you obviously havent read the article from HI this week. Very positive

This is sounding alot like AJ Derby's recruitment. The big time programs are interested because he is a big time athlete...size and speed. Don't freak out guys, things will shake out in due time. If he wants to come to Iowa, it will be. Give the kid a break. It's his decision, it's his life.

Christian is a good kid. It will be interesting to follow his recruiting this fall. Yes, he took a visit to ND and like the trip. Iowa is after him very hard. He has had a number of Iowa coaching visits during the school. At one visit, the visiting coach, had to make sure that Christian saw his Orange Bowl Championship ring.

The kid has nice size and he is athletic. A scary combination on the football field. Kennedy's defense utlitizes a number of linebackers. It will be interesting to see him play a little closer to the line on a regular basis.

It might be an advantage that ND is recruiting him to play D. I'd imagine Iowa would be open to him playing offense if he wanted.

Possibly, but i would say that after looking at his high school experience, defense is the only position he can play in college. Offense seems like a waste of time.

The first mistake that people(coaches too) do is to have a preconcieved notion on what a person can do before they have mutured.By that I mean both physically and mentally. There is a ton of people that reach their potential after HS. While it appears CF has not had great success statistically he could easily explode in the next 5 yrs if he wraps his brain aaround using his body to its greatest potential.
IMO this is why he shouldn't be even messing around in the recruiting process because there are very few programs that have the track record for helping kids reach their potential that Iowa does.

There's one issue with this, and that is that I've heard CF has stones for hands. That's why his stats aren't real great on the O. You can't teach hand eye coordination.

If his hands are really that bad, I don't see how he was ever considered such a great basketball player. That's usually something that basketball players playing football bring to the table: soft hands.

I know. That's just what some people who have seen him play have said. Don't know if it is putting a route together and catching it or what, but I heard if you hand him the ball he's a monster, but the catching part is rough. That's why ND is all Defense for CF.

That's the thing, both his basketball and football coaches have worked extensively on developing his hands and it just isn't happening. Not everyone can develop great hands. I wish the kid the best and hope he's a dominant hawk some day, i just think it'll have to be on Def like D-end or something where he can use his size and speed. Catching the ball just isn't his thing.

I'm not sure if he is a "great" BB player. My nephew played against him last weekend, and said he was OK. If he were a "great" BB player, he would be getting recruited I would think.

I don't really care where he plays for us, as long as he is a Hawk. I would prefer to see him roam around at LB or DE with his measurables. People get starry eyed for offense, but Iowa has proven that if you give them studs on the defensive side of the ball, and they will excel.

I'm wondering what Hamilton's commitment might mean to us with French.

I hope nothing. Raymond, Hamilton, and hopefully French would give a nice trio of rangy, explosive, projectable athletes. I'm sure French is raw as far as football but you can't teach his frame and athleticism. Even HKC could probably project to several positions, TE/DE/FB depending on athleticism and ability to gain weight.

Exactly! Herman was initially recruited at LB/DE and yet he landed at TE. Edds was specifically recruited at TE and turned out to be the new "gold standard" at our LEO LB spot.

Sometimes you just need to get good football players in the program and then let the positioning work its way out afterwards.

All I know is that visiting Iowa should be a cool experience because the players are definitely VERY confident ... and that sort of confidence can make the program look very alluring and exciting place to be.

I don't disagree with either of you, but sometimes the 18 year old mind doesn't work that way. I hope French comes on board too, but I'm glad we landed all three we did yesterday.

I don't think Herman's decision will affect French's choice, due to the fact that I am not sure that TE will be his position in college. It will be interesting to see how he is used in Kennedy's offense this year and also what his position will be on defense.

Did you mean Hamilton? I doubt French was going to be a TE. He has no hands. Can't teach hands either.
