Chicago Cubs 2015 Thread

Lester looked good today in the little time he pitched. 2 IP 1 hit 3K's

Baez looks to have lost 20 lbs and hit a rocket right at the LF, but didn't make any contact besides that. Ross started at C (Lesters personal C) then Swart's came in and played C and hit a rocket, but the 1st basemen made a good leaping play. No other regulars played today.

Baez/Soler/Bryant went back to back to back today! Oh please lord let this be a sign of things to come!!!

That is exciting, but should we be worried they haven't won a game yet? It's only spring training where wins and loses don't mean anything, but you would think with all this young talent they would pull out a W once in awhile.

Good chance Baez starts the season in the minors if he doesn't pick it up soon. His all or nothing approach just isn't gonna cut it right now. He seems a little cocky, maybe getting humbled a little would be a blessing in the long run.
Still interested to see what they do with Castillo, he is looking too good to be behind Ross at catcher IMO. Watched the game last night and he threw a seed to 2B to nail a baserunner.

Well guys, Roster seems to be settling in some. It appears the Cubs are going to take 3 catchers with them which seems bizarre. Bryant will start in AAA I believe. Will Edwin Jackson be in the bullpen? A few roster moves still to be made. Any thoughts? I am so ready for opening night next Sunday!

Baez, Bryant, and Russell optioned to the minors this morning.
Obviously a very smart move by the Cubs on Bryant, no matter how much Boras and others jump up and down. I'm a little concerned about Baez but he's still young and hopefully can get it figured out. Russell had a pretty good spring, I'm not sure what his deal looks like, but hopefully he keeps improving and can make a difference in the next year or two if not sooner.

The Bryant move is a tough one. Personally I'm not sure they know where they want to put him on the field yet, I would like to see left field. Between Castro, Baez, Russell and Olt we can find a 3rd Baseman. Theo has a track record, he always starts top prospects in the majors and brings them up on the road somewhere. Baez absolutely had to be moved down, this is the major leagues now, you have to put the bat on the ball more consistently. Russell is the real deal, I could see him being moved up very soon. In a perfect world I think the Cubs would love for Baez to turn it around so they could trade him in a package for Hamels type player.

It's not a tough move at all. Sacrificing 12 games now for 162 games later, that's a no brainer.

Any GM that would do any different should be fired on the spot for mismanagement of the team. This is what they Players assoc. collectively bargained, and they knew EXACTLY what they were doing when they did it. I can't believe the media is such a willing lap dog for Scott Boras on this whole thing.

The Bryant move is smart from a business standpoint no question. It just sucks for us fans that he won't be up until June now.

Exactly. The MLBPA negotiated away all rights to non-MLBPA members. Bryant is not part of the Cubs' 40 man roster so they are attempting to come to the defense of a non-member. Right or wrong, the Cubs are taking advantage of a loophole in the system and the decision to send Bryant down for about 2 weeks to gain another year of control is a no-brainer. The only way to fix it is to go back to litigation and bargaining and attempt to get back some rights for non-members. There's nothing they can do about the Bryant situation other than complain, which is what they are doing.

I like this tweet by Paul Sullivan. Olt has to be like..."hey, wait a minute..."

Assuming he pays his dues, @MLB_PLAYERS union owes Mike Olt an apology for its "bad day for baseball" statement on Bryant demotion

Because top prospects are almost never called up in April if they start in the minors. Strasburg, Wieters, Trout, Bruce, Profar, Harper etc. all the big name prospects had to bide their time for a few months before getting the call.
