Charlie Moore

Charlie Moore, IMO, is a difference maker type of PG. Probably not in caliber of Ulis as a Hs SR, but Ulis was elite. But I think Moore has 1st Team All B1G potential:

OK. So I reached out to a few sources this morning and it appears there's been some movement between Iowa and Moore quite recently. Not sure how much movement as the kid is getting hit pretty hard from all sides by schools wanting to get him. But there's definitely mutual interest. Does he have an offer? Who knows? It's probably semantics at this point. If he thinks enough of Iowa to visit, which I think is being worked on, I think there'd be an offer.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Do Moore and Vital both visit? And how do the coaches play it? If Vital wants to commit but they think they have a shot with Moore, do they wait in Charlie?

Stay tuned.

I'll continue working on this story. Hope to have more at some point today.

Thanks for the insight Rob! If we get a visit I'd be pretty excited. In a perfect world I think we'd like to have Moore, but if Vital wants to commit you probably have to take him. I don't think out dueling Louisville & UConn for a recruit is ever a bad thing, and we need a guard.

On the other hand, a class of Moore and Cook would be a monster class for Iowa BB IMO.

I love Fran is trying to get a visit for Moore. He knows if we land one of them we will be much better next season

Moore is EXACTLY what Iowa needs at PG. They need someone who can break down defenders, get to the rim, and create. They haven't had a true PG capable of doing that in Fran's tenure. It has been the weak link the chain. When you think about the future with guys like Tyler Cook, Pemsl, McCaffery, Kreiner, and Weiskamp then it's pretty clear a guy with Moore's skills would compliment the team better than Vital. Vital isn't as creative. He has a nice shot, but the Hawks have guys with a nice shot. They need a creator.

I think Ulis's career at KY was partially a product of his team. He had talent all around him which allowed him to really just do his thing. If he'd have been asked to score more or do other things he may not as been effective game in and out. Don't get me wrong he is a great player. But who thought after 2 yrs he'd leave early for the NBA? If he was at Iowa, MSU or anywhere else on his list would he have been doing that still? Hard telling.
As far as Moore and Vital goes. I don't know if they have a preference or not but I'd like to think they have done their due diligence and are doing what they can to land one of them. I would think Moore is a better fit only based on he's from IL and Iowa's recruited him longer and is the higher rated of the two. But both are being bombarded I'm sure and Iowa isn't the only school with a need at pg... Is there a timeline in place for either of them? I know Vital is 'working' on a visit date but it hasn't happened yet.

Maybe Vital heard Iowa opened up its recruiting again for Moore and thus the second visit to Conn., though I know it's apparently because mom wasn't able to visit the first time.

Have we just begun expressing interest again, or have we been in contact since his decommitment?
A top PG like Moore would be huge. Everything we've been missing.

Moore at the point with either Bohannon or Williams backing up.
Bohannon & Moss at the 2.
Jok & maybe Williams at the 3.
Cook & Uhl at the 4.
Jones & maybe also Uhl at the 5.
Does this sound correct? Who am I forgetting?
Sounds like a possible sweet 16 caliber team to me.

Cook and Wagner are much better fits at the 5 than Jones or Uhl.

Missing Baer. I think if we did land Moore or CV, Bohannon may redshirt or would play very little. That is a long way off though.

I think a lot of people aren't giving Williams any credit. I think he's going to be a beast.

I agree Williams is going to be very good. But I think we have seen the past couple of seasons the absolute need for a pg that can dribble-drive, almost at will. A pg that can also shoot from range, well enough, to keep defenders from sagging off to stop the drive. That has been our achilles the past few seasons. Teams adapt to stopping our pg's from driving and allow them to shoot from range. We weren't consistent from range in this scenario.
