Charlie Moore

Didn't mean for it to come off that way. The rumors were Fran backed off because of his handlers and that's why we didn't get a visit. I'm guessing he will pass again

There was definitely a problem with the relationship at the end but saying Moore and or his people asked for money is a really serious charge. Really serious.

Cool to see Tyler is pursuing. Don't think Fran is though.

Not so sure about that. Could see Fran and Tyler having the convo about it. But the shadowy "handlers" are the concern. I'm sure they are guys who hope to get him in the NBA eventually so they can continue to be his "friends" and hope to get paid.

I haven't seen anything from a credible source that would lead me to believe Fran has even contacted him since he de-committed from Memphis.

That was the rumor. Yes, a rumor, but it was out there on a wide scale. The folks reporting on his recruiting were stating it was coming down to Iowa and Illinois. Then, Iowa backs off and he winds up at Memphis. Since Moore nor Iowa didn't come out and give any reasons why Iowa backed off, I won't propagate that rumor. But that doesn't mean it wasn't out there.

I'm well aware of the rumor. It's one of the more unsavory ones I've come across on Iowa message boards in recent memory.

As I said to the other poster, that's a serious charge. There's absolutely no evidence of that being the case.

I've heard the reason from several reliable sources as to why Iowa backed off and no one I've spoken to brought up money being the reason.

You may say that it's just a message board where rumor and speculation is discussed. That's true and in many cases harmless. But saying a recruit and his "handlers" requested money for his services is not harmless. It's a serious charge that can become thought of as fact as a result of rumor mongering in these communities.

The fact that Moore ended up at Memphis is a strong indication that something funny was going on. That school is known to be a haven for impropriety.

Rob, please do not say that I said money was asked for. The rumor was about money being requested and that rumor existed. Without revealing your sources, can you please tell this thread what you have been reliably told did happen? That would certainly stop this rumor.

I thought I heard that Tyler Cook got permission from the coaches to tweet at both of these PGs Moore and Vital with the intent on trying to have them come to Iowa obviously. I think Cook has a relationship with Moore even. So why would the staff let Cook do that if Iowa has no interest in him?

You might be right that the staff is fine with putting out some feelers to Moore via Cook. No one is saying that we would not like to have him under the right circumstances.

We just know something happened with Moore that abruptly ended the courtship the first go around. He ended up at Memphis which is not exactly known for being a bastion of integrity. If something has changed with Moore &/or his handlers then maybe the door has been opened a sliver but it sounds like from Rob no formal communication has been made. Leads me to think its a long shot at best.

I don't think I said you said money was asked for. If you read it that way, I apologize. I was referring to the rumor being talked about. The more it's talked about the more it becomes a reality for some people.

Anyway, Iowa had not contacted Moore as of last night. And that certainly could change. Cook is friends with Moore. I wrote a story last summer quoting Moore that he'd like to play with Cook.

Tyler Cook and his family are Grade A people. If Tyler said the coaches told him it was OK to contact Moore, they did. Cook can gauge Moore's interest and let the staff know. Doesn't hurt. After the last go-around, the coaches will want to know it's worth their time. And it would start with a concrete visit date.

If I were handicapping it I'd list Northwestern as the favorite for Moore as of today.

It would be Huge if Charlie came to play for the Hawks. He reminds me of Steph Curry when he drives to the basket, also slick at passing the ball. Maybe Fran is thinking he is a one and done. Shouldn't matter though. Moore seems ready to play immediately. Would certainly help next season. We shall see.

NW still hasn't made The Dance

Rob, thank you very much. I do appreciate the insight you've provided. In my opinion, while they would be be in very different roles, either Vital or Moore would make Iowa a better team. I was all but convinced Moore would be a Hawk the first time around. I would not be disappointed on a rebound get. And, again, Vital looks to be an excellent shooter and scorer. That has been a large void in our offense from the pg position for a long time.

Tyler Cook appears to be an ambassador for the Hawks, similar to Josh Oglesby's influence on Woody, Mike Gesell and Peter Jok. He had a hand in their coming to Iowa. Oglesby certainly gets a ton of bad press, but he was an extremely important recruit for the Hawks. Opened the door for other highly rated recruits to, at least, consider Iowa.
