Charlie Jones on Why He Left for Purdue

Charlie (and the Hawkeyes football program itself) is a victim of Brian as both and OC and QB coach.

I’m sure it won’t be, but that interview should be an embarrassing wake up call to Iowa football.

Could maybe use a guy like Jones and even Tracy with 47 of our receivers hurt before the season starts.

I’m just gonna go ahead and do it…#firebrian

You know where the real issue is. Go ahead and say it. Brian wasn't the OC during the really lean years. Davis took the Hawks to within 1 play of the CFP as well as one of the worst years in Iowa modern history.

Nobody has had to double any WR we’ve had in years because our QBs never look deep unless it’s a super obvious playaction to a specific guy which will see our QB throwing a duck into coverage.

Opposing defenses can ignore outside the hashes and past 20 yards, we put ourselves in a box.

Seems like it's been CJ against MSU couple of times. Sure there are more, but not a lot. Petras didn't struggle to hit that against Maryland. Wonder why that doesn't work more. Jones on the fly route woulda been sweet. Hope Hawks don't see that one much.

I heard that Jones is Purdue's number #1 receiver. Aidan O'connor finished the season with over 4,000 yrds and the passing game is the focus of their offense. He finished I believe 2nd in the conference in passing. I can see why a 3rd receiver in the Iowa system chose to left, when Iowa focuses on the run game and is inept at the passing game.

That’s going to be a huge problem moving forward unless Brian leaves and that’s not happening.

Gee Thanks Brian again....or whoever pulls the strings on offense.

The question is ‘what will it take to get rid of him’?

BF will have to fall on the sword. It is on him to decide if he wants to stick around or not. He has to weigh what the damage will be to his father's legacy(if any) by sticking around. Continue to win 8,9,10 games a year and he remains the OC...if or when that dips, he will have a tough call to make.

I thought the TT interview was just as interesting.

Thursday Sept. 1....Penn St.@ Purdue: I'm not one of those wishing the Summer away for football, but I am all in for this game, more so than Nebraska/NW.

Sidenote: I know technically, Summer ends in late September...however I think everyone gets my point.:)

"I did spring at Iowa...." and saw that they weren't gonna throw the ball any more than they did the last few years. So I left.
Onnnnn the other hand CJ (and others) knew/knows the Iowa passing culture. One or two player dissatisfaction isn't going to change that.

I suspect that Brian was blaming the QB coach. So his dad in a nice way went and ask his friend and former QB coach to step down and let Brian take the reigns. I also suspect Kirk told Brian it’s all your’s now and no more excuses.

I am hoping for a surprise this year from the offense, but with Charlie and Goodson now gone someone is going to have to step up. One of the obvious position’s will be the QB position. The line will have to make big strides as well as will the receivers……………whelp I guess that’s the whole damn offense.
