Calm down or Sit Down

Some of the calls--such as the throwing on third down against Wisconsin with a small lead late in the game--are why Rob says that. It ain't hard to see. Yes, NS had his share of miscues, but it's rarely one single play or miscue that makes the difference.
Do we know this wasn’t checked out of and was the correct call/execution was the problem? A lot goes into the game and do any of us really know for sure, I’d say no. I agree on the head scratching run and play calling and not saying BF is innocent by any means.

I’m just trying to state the over throws and badly throw balls by NS are not on BF. At least that’s what I’m trying to get across.

Where did I write that BF was the main culprit?
This isn’t just a NS issue with consistency. It also involves BF. They’re both in Year 3. Time to score more than 10 points against NW.
I took what you stated here as BF had culpability in Nate Stanley’s consistency/overthrows.

I do not see how they go hand n hand is all. Thanks for the discussion.

Looking at you Nathan Stanley. You're a senior now and its time to show poise and even some moxy. Don't want to see him with bugged out eyes, overthrowing open receivers, etc, etc

still he's done some good and very good things.

OSU Win,

ISU comeback win on the road

Miss. State game - holding on to the ball was no small feat -and some nice TD passes. other things.

Hi TD to Int ratio.

dude make me nervous, like Kirk says, smil a little have some fun. You know it must be an issue if someone like KF says that.

Nate definitely seems to be the type that sweats the details and overthinks. He really just needs a little Joel Goodsen in him and just say "WTF" once in a while. Fire off that cannon of an arm a little more often and get the defense thinking. If Kirk has to be his "Miles" and call the prostitute so be it. Hopefully, he calls Lana and not the first one.

That overthrow against PSU still gives me nightmares. It was the easiest throw in the world and he sailed it 10 freaking yards past Hock. That was the turning point of the game. Make that throw it's an easy TD and PSU is completely demoralized. Instead, we give them the ball back and the game completely changes.

I think it was the turning point in the season. That goes for 6, game over. Momentum going to Purdue

At least your not calling out individual players! Lol. I agree with ya. He needs that “it” factor and try to play loose.

I honestly thought Nate looked pretty calm against the best defense in the SEC in the bowl game. MSU was the real deal and he made plays to win that game. We have to keep him clean...that's the big thing. If he's comfortable...he's a different player.

I will never be able to explain Penn State...or why he just couldn't seem to make the necessary play against Wisconsin and Northwestern. We had chances in every loss to win those games...we just weren't great when we had to be.

199 yards...TO.

I think I heard yesterday that he has a .500 record against BIG teams. Ugh!

Is anyone else as nervous as I am when Dave "neutral speak" Revsine goes on Mark Packer's ESPNU radio show and says "Yeah the Hawkeyes did NOT look good when we were in Iowa City" . Especially the point where he says "boy Nate Stanley really had problems....." I am!

You could add a bad one to Hock in the 4th Q vs. Wisc (wide-open on a play-action cross, beautifully schemed, would have gone for 30+ yards). I can't remember specific throws vs. Purdue, but I know he was generally subpar in that game.

I am hoping for big improvement, without a ton to base my hope upon. But hope is a great thing, maybe the best thing.
Purdue game was a bit different Riley Moss did his best impersonation of burnt toast. Now he was a Frosh due to injuries he was placed in that position before he was ready. My only point is that our D didn't really do much on that day last year either.

I totally agree, the overthrows are ultimately on NS. But even then you could say, was it miscommunication, did Hock wait too long and "should" have been where the throw was made, or run the wrong pattern (I know, that's a reach!), etc?

No doubt, NS has to make those throws. But he has also made good throws that were flat-out dropped, or a receiver quit on the route, or missed block caused a throw to be hurried. Even in the PSU goal line play, it's acknowledged that KF was trying to call time out and it was ignored (even though NS should have called TO himself).

But you are right, over throws really shouldn't be on a coach.

I was not saying BF is responsible for NS's overthrows or inaccuracy. I was saying both are responsible for Iowa's offensive inconsistencies the last two seasons.

I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I'm sharp enough to understand a coach can't throw a ball for a quarterback, not to mention there's a position coach in addition to BF.

Well, what do you expect? This whole thing is a risky business.

He said that because he just laid down $5,000 in Riverside for Iowa to make the over, and he wants other people to bet on the under. :)

Geez...we play a top rated SEC defense in two previous bowl appearances (Tennessee & Florida) and we get our asses handed to us in absolute beatdowns. Then we play a another SEC defense that is, based on draft picks, much better than those SEC defenses...and we score 27 and win...and people are still bitching. Stanley got sacked twice I think...against two first rounders on their DL.

Coming out of that bowl game, everyone should be recognizing there are some positives that bode well for this season. They still have to execute with the games on the line...and to be honest, I don't think that's figured out until you get there. That's college football.

I still have bad memories of how he played at Penn St last year. One of the worst QB single game performances I have ever seen from an Iowa QB. He can not do that this year!
Yeah I think it's pretty comparable to JC6 vs MSU in '07, but at least JC6 made the final throw that made the difference

He is what he is. The light isn’t magically going on. It’s his 5th year and people are coddling him like he’s a first year starter. He lost his two go to targets that he could rely on and we still have the same receiving group minus Easley that he could count on. So not sure where the improvement will come from. We do know one thing though. He will take every meaningful snap the entire season no matter how bad he is.

Uhhh we had MINUS rushing yards for an entire game and the D created some TO's. WE HAD MINUS RUSHING YARDS.
