Caleb Brown MIA

And we'll get a very in-depth explanation and not a short statement along the lines of "It's a personal issue. Next question."
If he's asked about when/if he's expected to be back he'd answer that wouldn't he? Assuming he knows. If the kid just bailed and isn't saying then that's one thing. But if it's just a 1 game or 2 week thing why wouldn't' KF just say as much?

No, but retention bonus, loan repayment- things like that are often recouped
We can go round and round, but there’s zero chance they’re going to try and get money back from this kid. Can you imagine the negative effect that’d have on recruiting if they went after a player for NIL money? You gonna send your kid to a school where if it doesn’t work out he’s going to have lawyers sending him demand letters and suing him? Hell no.

No doubt however this is where it can get murky because the school doesn't have anything to do with it. Be it the Swarm or whatever 3rd parties are involved it's not the football program itself. We aren't ever going to even know unless one side or the other goes public and makes a thing of it. But coaches can just say look any and all NIL stuff is between you and them. Kids and parents will need to know that upfront out of the gates.

5 games in - 0 receptions.
He could have stayed at Ohio State and had the same performance. He may have actually caught a pass by now.
Why would he stay at Iowa?

Mitchell repaid his scholarship as well. They were both connected to Norby. I guess the players have all the leverage now. Man, I would find it hard to give children that kind of money without a claw back provision, but it's a strange new world.
Everyone remembers what Harmon did in the 1986 Rose Bowl.

Watch Devon Mitchell in that year's (1985) Michigan State game and the poor tackling position he was in all day. The lackluster effort to tackle Rison on his 50 yard catch (and mostly run) TD. The way he bats MSU's last hail Mary pass TOWARD Mark Ingram, who would have caught it for a winning TD had he reacted a little sooner.

We were 18 point favorites that day and barely won. And Mitchell was in on some sort of ruse that day.

Duh, but that’s not what I was posting

KF just said in his press conference that Kaleb is practicing with the team, but couldn't elaborate on the circumstances surrounding the situation. He just reiterated that it was a personal matter.

Excellent news. Kaleb will be one of the all time greats at Iowa and I'm glad all is seemingly well. For now.

I would guess that NIL contracts are more like "personal services" contracts. Unlike the more typical employer situations personal service contracts frequently contain claw back provisions.

Harmon and Mitchell had to repay Iowa for their scholarships and I think the University's legal fees incurred in the Harmon/Mitchell investigation. Not certain about the legal fees.

Rather than claw-back, I'd just pay monthly installments contingent upon, things like enrollment, subject to non disparagement considerations as well...and who knows .. con compete clauses? ...nah

Fantastic. Hope his personal deal isn't too bad of a thing. The fact he isn't just bailing due to some of the obvious reasons he could be is great for Iowa. People forget it's only his 2nd yr of college football he's talented but green behind the gills as far as having many reps. Sure would be nice to get him more. It's not like anyone ahead of him deserves any.

I just read elsewhere that rumor has it he fell asleep in a team meeting and KF chose to address it as a "personal matter."

He's gone and the fight begins for the money. I thought that's what we decided happened earlier. Old biddies!

Oh it will be a lawyer's banquet if this continues. Those contracts will be 100 pages long. Probably ten pages of recital, a multi-page ToC and the page after page of mind-numbing goo-any or all of which could spring to life in a lawsuit.

No adults even read their mortgages or the complete terms of their auto financing agreement. You shake $1M at a kid that can't really read his reaction is: "Show me where I sign to get the money."

Shit, I tend to dose off when I hear KF's canned coach speech. Hard to blame the kid. :)

Maybe a taste of humble pie and having to work his way out of the doghouse will light a fire under the young man. Worked with DJK!!!!
