Butch Davis Fired

Very odd to wait this long ... I was surprised he was not canned at the conclusion of last season.

my thoughts too. with all these NCAA violations going on, what were they waiting for? i figured since they hadn't pulled the trigger that he was getting another year. now they'll have to scramble to find a coach if they're not going to promote an assistant.

So are they taking the OSU way out of it saying that the university had no idea what was going on that it starts and ends with the coach? They're sure to get off now without anything more than a slap on the wrist.

The unreported story is that the UNC Board of Trustees named their new trustees and apparently the anti-Butch group finally had enough votes to push him out.

kicker22, UNC has been claiming all along that one assistant coach was the only one who knew anything. Apparently that wasn't true?

Not saying that it wasn't true, I just have a hard time believing that only one assistant coach knew. I'm still under the impression that firing Davis has something to do with OSU's approach of self policing so the NCAA won't have to.

Pierre Thomas, who was starting for NO when they won the Super Bowl, and Mike Leshoure was drafted in the second round this year. That's every starter for the past 5 years in the NFL. Say what you will about what a joke of a program Illinois is, but that is an impressive sell to recruits.

Pierre Thomas's college production wasn't that impressive. So how precisely does that illustrate exceptional development by Zooker and crew?

Furthermore, Reggie Mitchell was the RB coach at Illinois from '05 to '09. How much of his coaching was responsible for the success of Mendenhall and LeShoure (and, perhaps, Thomas). Furthermore, the prior OL coach for the Illini through much of those years is now the OL coach at South Carolina.

Lastly, is Zook not on a pretty hot seat these days?
