Whatever Ben...I thought you were down with the black and gold. It says Hawkeyes on the front of the jersey, not Lickliters. If you skate for Gooferville, Madison or any other Big Ten team I will be so frickin' mad.

Tell Jaryd Cole it aint about the H-A-W-K-E-Y-E-S on the front of the jersey. I love Jaryd, he is a true Hawkeye who has stuck it out through three coaches, and for that he will always be one of my favorite Hawkeyes. When it is senior night next season I'm gonna be there cheering my butt off for Cole because he is a true Hawk!
What is Ben gonna throw away all that Hawkeye gear he has been pimpin' for the past year? Hawkeye Pride! It means something to me, and hopefully it means something to Ben too.
This is so ridiculous. I guess having a good relationship with the people you will spend most of your time with for the next 4 years doesn't matter, as long as you get to play for Iowa! Honestly, who Ben grew up rooting for or has been rooting for over the last year should be one of the last reasons he picks a school. The kid sounds like he has a really good head on his shoulders. I didn't know much about him prior to the coaching change, but I have GAINED a lot of respect for him. He isn't succumbing to the pressure and he is taking his time to make an informed, responsible decision. It seems like a lot of people around here could learn a thing or two from him.
You really aren't getting it. He's not a Hawkeye because he is out of state, and had no ties to the university outside of his recruitment. He doesn't have "Hawkeye Pride", because prior to his recruitment, he had no pride in Iowa basketball.
I said in my previous post that once a guy gets on campus, he can become a "true Hawkeye" because of the bonds he forms with his teammates. But a recruit doesn't have those bonds yet. The only strong bond that a recruit in Brust's situation has is with the coaches.
Seriously, I don't understand why people still aren't grasping this concept.
I know what you are saying, and my posts were just in jest. If I really gave a crap then I would say that Basabe shouldn't come to Iowa. However, you can bet your butt I won't be cheering for Ben or wishing him luck (at least when he plays Iowa) if he goes to Minnesota or Wisky.
If most kids commit because of the coach, then they aren't really thinking that straight about their future. The vast, vast majority of these kids won't be earning a paycheck playing ball.
I would think the school choice would be, or maybe should be, just as important for most kids. I think a lot of these kids read too many of their press clippings and internet message boards.
That's fair enough, and a reasonable stance for other fans to take. But people playing the sour grapes card, or taking those kind of passive-aggressive shots at him (like I thought you were doing) is just childish, and makes us look stupid.
About as stupid and childish as multiple posts saying the same thing in every string touching on the topic.
Right, because everyone who's ever tried to get people to understand something (something actually worth understanding) was just stupid and childish. Can't believe that Jesus guy, or MLK. What were they thinking (and no, I'm not comparing what I'm saying to the messages that they delivered, but you get the idea).
I just wanted to quote this in case you sober up later and try to deprive others of a good laugh.
If kids were committing to the school and not the coach, there would be no need to recruit them. Recruits would just line up at their favorite schools and beg to be offered.
