Yes, but he didn't report it to the appropriate people at Tennessee. Tennessee officials did not find out about the alleged violation until the NCAA notified them of the additional violation. Tennessee couldn't report the violation because they didn't know about the violation. You can't defend this scumbag.

Want some clearer perspective? Leave Pearl and Collins out of it and ask around the Big Ten. Illinois was widely thought of as a dirty program under Lou Henson...and Collins was the lead sleeze. Bob Knight regularly made subtle references to it.
Pearl is no saint and I don't want him at Iowa. But the idea of Jimmy Collins as a victim is laughable. Only in Chicago is the criminal the good guy.

I don't know about the Illinois board site, but the Tate article has some telling info from when Pearl's Wisconsin-Green Bay team paid a visit to Collins' Illinois-Chicago.

It is Illini-fan Tate simply taking Thomas's lawyers ''statements'' as some kind of rock solid evidence of wrong-doing on Pearl's part,while the poor pure as driven snow Jimmy Collins was railroaded by a vindictive NCAA compliance committee....
More of the same from Illini fans who cannot bring themselves to accept that the NCAA did an investigation and found that an illini booster car dealer was giving illini players cars without requiring a credit check or any payments until they signed pro contracts....you know,minor stuff like that.

Exactly. The kid was at his house which is a violation of NCAA rules and then he compounded it by lying to the NCAA.
Didn't alford have kids come to his house in Iowa City after he built that monstrosity with the indoor court?

You can't compare Pearl and McCaffery. Not even close. Ethics, recruiting, success are completely different. One proves what works right NOW and the other shows what takes TIME.

You're partly correct. No one in the whole mess was an angel, I agree. However, as time has gone on and some of the relationships Pearl had with Smyrt et al are examined it is quite possible that NCAA employees were unethical in their endeavors. At the time I would not have believed it. Smyrt (first name I've forgotten) has had legal troubles twice and is now running some pseudo-NCAA advisory/consulting service. The NCAA forced him out of their employ for some undisclosed reasons. He was close with Pearl from a previous relationship. The two of them have always skirted the rules and have been ruthless in general. In my opinion, I don't trust anyone's motives from that whole ordeal.
Not so. The 'bump' is/was a violation and nobody at Tennessee thinks it is going away since the NCAA has already documented it as part of their case against Pearl and subsequently the Tennessee program. You're dead wrong on that one. Prior to that there were some in the Tennessee community that were willing to see what the NCAA was going to do before making a final decision on Pearl. But, once this latest violation ocurred, the Tennessee Chancellor shut off access to those who wanted to have some say and supported Pearl. His thinking was that those who thought Tennessee could 'ride this thing out' were not really appraised of the situation adequately. There is a 50/50 chance that the NCAA will slap a show-cause on Pearl. If so, he'll never be employed by an NCAA member institution again.

I would take Pearl and Forbes in a minute...as someone else said...I just want to win. I am so sick of losing and I really don't care how they get it done at Iowa...let's be real people...EVERY program cheats...even the beloved Hawkeyes. You have to if you want to have a chance.

I don't know how recruiting a felon is a violation but whatever Hawkforce. As ridiculous as it sounds, there is nothing illegal, immoral or unethical about it. I want to win as much as you, but let's do it the right way.
