Some interesting remarks.

BF considers Stanley a top 8 QB....
in the Big Ten! Well that's a start anyway in getting Stanley some recognition.

Iowa basically only runs 3 running plays, but trys to disguise what play they are running.

BF plans to coach from the sidelines in 2018 instead of the press box. I guess he already did that once in the Pinstripe bowl. That probably means KOK will be moved upstairs to be the eyes in the sky. Of course this time last year BF said he was going to coach from the sidelines then changed his mind and coached from the box the entire regular season. So you never know for sure if he is going to stick with this decision or not.

Well, last year he said they ran 6 plays. So I guess they must be simplifying things.

Face it, he's a behind the scenes guy. The spot light was never on him. He did have many around him growing up.
But I do respect his ability to say what he wants to say, when the spot light comes around.
Maybe he should be called down from above. Maybe not. Sideline or box?
But he has one thing right, don't talk bullshit to a cattle farmer.
I like that about him.

Yeah...Brian is saying they run three running plays. What he isn't saying is that there are 10 ways they can block those three running plays and that it's incumbent on the center to recognize the defense, make the call, and every offensive linemen to get and understand the call and know his assignment. I'm sure there are variations also based on defensive alignment.

21
3 becomes 30.

starting to lose wind in the sales with brian as an oc. run, run, run, and make sure our WR's can block. even though we actually have a top 2 qb in the conference, we'll run. i mean, last year brian at least threw shade and ISU, MN and kNU, now he's apologizing for not throwing any shade. this program has no edge. let's see some damn swagger. hell, why not?

I think we already knew that we ran 3 running plays, tops.. and we can as fans recognize them right away.

As someone else said, I’m starting to lose wind in the sails as Brian as OC. This year better be a huge jump, or I’m completely done with him. Not like it matters, he will be coaching here forever.

The long range passing is a key to increased production. Last year the passing game to the TEs especially was really pretty good in that 10-25 yard range, And Easley, Vandy, and ISM got the occasional 20-30 yarder like that big pass in the bowl game to Easley. But until the offense can consistently burn teams for 30 yards plus and keep both opposing safeties back we will continue to see the 8th man in the box. And if the hawks had connected on 3-4 of those first 8-10 deep balls last year it would have made a huge difference in their outlook and opponents planning.

If an opponent is playing man defense then WRs running sprint patterns down the field can just as effectively take a Dback out of help on a running play as blocking the DBack.

It was an opportunity for some motivational material. So basically the Ohio reporter throws Ohio State's three potential starters in a list with the five of the best quarterbacks in the conference. Brian thinks, his guy, Stanley is on schedule to be among that group next year. Stanley needs to do a few things to get there. He needs to show a little better touch and not throw everything like it's going to go through a brick wall. He consistently threw the long ball a few steps too far. His leadership, reaction time, read of defenses, and timing should all improve. The rest of the offense needs to be there too, to make it happen.

you have to be able to complete the passes, to be sure. Stanley does need to improve on that. but it is the threat of the deep pass that keeps that safety out of the box. Fant should run a damn go route on every single play. there, now you're man on man at the LOS because Fant does require a double, deep.

Maybe there are 3 basic blocking schemes and not saying multiple run / pass variations.

psh.. 3 plays......not buying it. This is part of the Iowa football culture forever underselling, awe shucks, keep the outside world's expectations low

It's exactly that, plus maybe a little gamesmanship. Just from memory we've ran inside zone, outside zone, power, trap, wham, g-scheme, and iso while he's been here.

He meant alignments. Or he was just trolling everyone. Which is rather funny and I would have to say has a pretty good sense of humor.

"Other personnel groupings branch off of the 21, depending on the flexibility of the players utilized. It can be considered a “jack-of-all-trades” personnel set, in that teams can run a variety of running plays (power, stretch, counters), play-action passes, and downfield passes."
