Brian Ferentz Being Asked Today About Oliver Martin's Playing Time

The best coaches in America are arrogant pricks.... do any of you watch any football outside of the Hawks? Legit question.

Here's a reasonable question for Iowa media to ask coaches at the next presser: "Given the recent history -- going on 3 years now -- of not being able to convert a 2-pt conversion, have you considered putting in a special package for the most mobile QB on your roster, such as Mansell, to give you a little more versatility and more options in that situation? Iowa fans are thinking you probably don't have much to lose by trying something different."

Have you ever been around people that have an edge? I mean you don't just turn it on and off, it spills over into other things where you don't want it to necessarily. That is what having an "edge" is. If he could control it, then he would be his old man and would come off calm and reasoned.

Ok, point well taken. God helps us if we had to tolerate another little Kirk personality. Whelp we’re not sexy, whelp that’s football.

very small! Crystal ball says That. Accurate answer yes.Just can't wait huh?

Not sure I understand what you are saying? I would give him a 90% chance of being the next coach. I don’t love it, but there are worse options and Bob stoops or urban aren’t riding into Iowa city.

What this thread tells me:

Many people are pissed that Iowa is 3-0. Many people are pissed that Iowa has won 14 of its last 18 games. Many people do NOT want to give any credit to Kirk or Brian.

And that's sad.

YEAH those *uckers better not go 14-0 this year because I would be really, really pissed off.

Despite the fact he's a hall of fame caliber coach that has had success everywhere he's been, even if he wanted to come to Iowa (which I see as zero chance in hell) I don't think the University would even consider him based on his past history and the fact that he can't stay in place for a set period of time before things get ugly, he retires and then years later returns to the sport when a things calm down and other elite position opens up.

If not BF, who would everyone want? Why does everyone want to blow up a winning football program? I guess I've never understood that one fully. I would feel much better about our next coach if we hired someone who was familiar with our culture and understood what it takes to win here. We should be so lucky to be in that situation. Most schools are not. Iowa is currently an extremely healthy program that is churning out players to the NFL and winning games at a higher clip then most. I will be fairly disappointed and actually really worried if BF is not Iowa's next coach. I want this to last as long as we can have it.

I disagree. Very happy to see where we are at. A lot of people thought 2-1 at this point, so we are ahead of schedule. But, that does not excuse our coaches from acting non-professional either.

I don’t disagree, what about Phil Parker?

I watched the clip? I guess I didn't see anything non professional. He made a great point. Who isn't getting production right now at wide out? He isn't going to feed into that narrative again this year, because last year, there were a couple of players on the team in similar situations as far as playing time and it created a distraction.

I think it's pretty obvious Phil doesn't want it. He has a more than qualifying resume for a good amount of P5 jobs, but he has a lot of control and stability here at Iowa.

As for BF, anyone who thinks the next HC is anyone but him is fooling themselves. I'm not sure we want to put a fool like Barta in charge of choosing KF's successor anyways.

Yeah that 7-5 narrative flew out the window a while ago. His record from 2008-2018 was 91-52 and that was with the 4-8 2012 season in there for ballast. That's well over 8 wins and well under 5 losses a season. And he's done nothing so far in 2019 to hurt that average.

Kirk 2008-2018 is behind Mark Dantonio (99-46) but ahead of Fitz (86-54) (!). Fitzgerald's record surprised me. Maybe he does beat teams other than Iowa. Throw the Wisconsin juggernaut in there and Nebraska pre Mike Riley and maybe the West has been more formidable than some would like to give it credit for.

That’s actually the biggest argument FOR Brian in my opinion, barta’s too incompetent to hire anyone else.
