Brandon Hutton Commits to Iowa

I have given Fran a very hard time on this site about not being able to land anyone from Chicago...so...I'll eat some crow if this opens up a pipeline to Simeon (that's where someone said he is from?).

He started out at Simeon and transferred to De La Salle.

This sounds like a great get, along with Dickerson. Hopefully Atwood will follow shortly... Some much needed athleticism, from the sounds of it.

This is pretty cool. Iowa's tempo with more guys able to run it will be awesome. I am climbing down off the ledge. In Fran I trust again.

Glad we're getting him, sounds very athletic and can play D-something we obviously need. Am wondering though what kind of shooter he is. Reading between the lines, it sounds like it's still a work in progress maybe? Man, we need guys who can shoot as well.

Was just about to post this:
Scout.com: Iowa Lands Hutton

From what I've been reading (in other articles), Hutton is a "gym rat" and is working hard on his outside game (so yeah, probably a work in progress there) but sounds like he has a solid mid-range game and has the athleticism to get to the rim. So hopefully his outside game will catch up. A few comments from Hutton:

"It's not that my defensive game is ahead of my offensive game, it's just that I'm that good at defense," Hutton said of his reputation. "I'm still coming along with my offensive game but I can give you 20 points. I can give it to you off of the dribble, pulling up or a drive with me being a slasher. I can slash to the hole and put it on someone's head with a dunk. I think I'm a highlight reel."

It also sounds like a pretty stable commitment from Hutton.

Hutton is a guy continuing to rise up the prospect rankings. Other programs likely will check the strength of his Iowa commitment all the way up to signing day in November.

"I feel like this is it," Hutton said. "It's over. It's sealed. You can throw it in the vault. This is the decision. I think it's one of the best decisions I've made in my life. I'm very sure about it."

Better get John Sears to do an exclusive interview and ask him 1000 times about it. I won't believe it until then.

Thanks 77. Preciate it. He looks really athletic in the brief video as well.

Sure thing. The way I see it, if Fran starts getting more athletic players, even if they aren't great shooters from deep, that added athleticism has to at least help on the defensive end, if nothing else. More athletes = GOOD.

Another thing that this commitment does is break the ice on getting a Chicago player to commit to Iowa. That could be huge.

They say he is a gym rat so I think his offense will come around. What is exciting, especially if they get Atwood or someone like him this spring, is how much that should improve the other players on the team. Just think how much better White will be with the added athletic ability on the team. Oglesby should be a lot better too.

Joe Hendricksen has Hutton as the #6 prospect out of Illinois in the 2015 class, with only top 75 guys like Charles Matthews(UK), DJ Williams (Ill), Jalen Brunson(uncommitted), Aaron Jordan( Ill) and Glynn Watson(uncommitted, Iowa recruiting), ahead of him.

Fran is now stepping up our athleticism to match our fast style. That is how Iowa plays fast and does not get beat down the court. ...more athletes.

I think the Chicago market is one that needs broken into to find talent and glad we have and think this sounds like a terrific get for iowa but I just don't think there is a correlation between recruits like the way you are insinuating.

Maybe I'm wrong as there do seem to be more players that are advertising themselves as packaged deals but I'm just not sure that because one lands others are to follow. I think Fran just has to continue to identify the talent he wants and build the individual relationship.

Definitely. And you know if Bo offered him he must be able to at least shoot decently to fit his system.
