Brandon Hutton Commits to Iowa

Was just about to post this:
Scout.com: Iowa Lands Hutton

From what I've been reading (in other articles), Hutton is a "gym rat" and is working hard on his outside game (so yeah, probably a work in progress there) but sounds like he has a solid mid-range game and has the athleticism to get to the rim. So hopefully his outside game will catch up. A few comments from Hutton:

"It's not that my defensive game is ahead of my offensive game, it's just that I'm that good at defense," Hutton said of his reputation. "I'm still coming along with my offensive game but I can give you 20 points. I can give it to you off of the dribble, pulling up or a drive with me being a slasher. I can slash to the hole and put it on someone's head with a dunk. I think I'm a highlight reel."

It also sounds like a pretty stable commitment from Hutton.

Hutton is a guy continuing to rise up the prospect rankings. Other programs likely will check the strength of his Iowa commitment all the way up to signing day in November.

"I feel like this is it," Hutton said. "It's over. It's sealed. You can throw it in the vault. This is the decision. I think it's one of the best decisions I've made in my life. I'm very sure about it."

I love the arrogance/confidence/swagger in his response about his defense. Players with that mentality generally continue to work hard because they want to be the best, and not just in the conversation. Which could translate into making the rest of his teammates work that much harder. We could have a very strong player who I could definitely see becoming a voice of the program in the future.

Did anyone else's eyes light up when they read about the 6'8 PG/SG that is in the mix and getting interest? That kind of size and length at the PG/SG position has me drooling. Think of the length advantage we could have on the defensive end with him on the floor.

Santos is an intriguing prospect. I believe he is of Puerto Rican ethnicity. Played in western suburbs,Geneva, last season as a 6'5'' shooter/pg, then went to a prep school and pushed back a grade. Now has grown to 6'8'' and is in the class of 2016, but still plays with the same AAU club, Illinois All-Stars. He is advertised as a very good shooter, and ball-handler, so he can play 3 positions....a Fran type of player.

Fitting that tm answered deano's question.

Well, I'm the one who actually spends time around them. Wouldn't I be the one to know?

For the record, their obsession with Lazard's commitment being question was stupid. The kid left the door open by taking visits, even if he wasn't actually considering backing out.

Looks like a great get for Iowa. Its also great to see Iowa basketball making recruiting progress in the Chicago area.

Francis has been working Chicago hard and honestly Chicago is a tough nut to crack when it comes to recruiting basketball players. If Hutton opens up the Chicago floodgates for Iowa we will be in for a treat as reading that coaches post it appears Iowa is in the mix for several Chicago players.
Agreed! That would be great news indeed. This kid sounds like a stud. Also love the Clown troll getting destroyed in that thread.

His AAU coach visited Hawkeyereport BB board. The other exiting thng about this kid is that he will recruit hard for Iowa so that he'll be surrounded by other high level athletes. Finally getting back in Chicago is huge.

If Hutton can bring Evan Boudreaux with him to Iowa City in the 2015 class then Fran will have hit a grand slam.

Absolutely, great news. I've always insisted that Iowa has to be able to successfully recruit some talent from Illinois, being a border state, to be able to really be able to have consistently good talent in our program. Getting into Chicago would obviously be key.

I remember our previous coach (Lickliter) apparently did not believe in establishing relationships with a recruit's AAU coach(es). Love the work Fran and the staff is getting done on the recruiting trail lately. Fran always struck me as a workaholic, and I figured that hard work would eventually start paying dividends in recruiting. Looks like that's starting to happen.

There are a couple of other intriguing members of his AAU team that the staff are taking a hard look at as well. Sounds as though Hutton is going to try and help recruit other Chicago area players to come with him. Great news at a time when Iowa fans really needed some.
