Brady Reiff cited for public intox....big deal, or no big deal?

Well it doesn't say if he was being embarrassingly belligerent or fighting or what. It just depends what he was doing to some extent. He's 22 of age and wasn't driving. Public intox is such a vague thing without knowing more it's hard to drop down the hammer fairly. I do know at 2:44 am there's only a couple reasons why I'd be awake and walking around from bar to bar wouldn't be one of them. I'm sure he's embarrassed he got caught and his names in the paper for the wrong reasons... Would he risk doing it or something worse again?? I mean was he walking to his car to try driving home like that? That is always the question for these kids..

Is that grilled cheese stand in the Ped Mall still open? That and Taco Bell were my favorite spots downtown at 2:44 AM, but if someone was sober enough to drive us to Village Inn or if we could find a taxi, then Village Inn was my go to spot. Probably 80% of the people at any of those locations could have received a public intox, but back then the cops usually reserved it for people who were looking to fight or who were passed out drunk. I presume it's still the same way.

When I was at Iowa, we had a Rocky Rococo's in the Ped Mall, best late night beer pizza......

One's over use of alcohol is a "big deal" if it causes that same person (+family/team members/coaches) problems which can change/alter their lives in negative ways.

It was probably a racially motivated arrest anyhow.

I would agree with all that maybe even a higher % thankfully Years ago wasn't their a big to do over how the cops were singling out football players they recognized?

I don't know if it's a big deal or not, but it seems funny ...

When Reiff noticed there was a rider sitting in the passenger seat, police said he moved to the back door and attempted to open it.

When asked what he was doing, police said Reiff asked for a ride home. “He thought that was our job,” the police report states.

When asked if he thought the vehicle was an Uber, police said Reiff replied “Yes.”

Man. Come on. He ain't driving. He ain't causing any problems. Find the kid his uber and get him home. That's absurd.

I knew it. Effin ICPD. He was doing the responsible thing.

Thought the cops were an Uber? He basically walked up, got in the back seat, and said arrest me.

Having stumbled around drunk in IC on many occasions, I can attest that you have to TRY to get a pub intox. Reiff pulled it off.

The lesson to be learned is, don't get into a cop car on your own volition when you are .2 or above. Not getting to play against Northern Ill is a good way to learn it, I guess.

Funny story for grandkids, but serious offense? I think not. Not driving, of legal age, cops could have cut him a break but I realize cops don't do that anymore. If I had 10 bucks for every time cops told me and my friends to go home and if anyone was sober enough to drive I could buy a PlayStation. It's all so serious now. Glad I grew up in the 80's.

Exactly. He's of age and did the responsible thing in trying to get an Uber. Daddy Kirk isn't "pleased" though, so he's probably gonna have to clean some stairwells with a toothbrush or something.
