Bracketology - NCAA College Basketball Brackets and Predictions - ESPN

This would be terrible. A major conference team in the first round, a pretty good Cincy team in the second and a Syracuse team I want no part of in the Sweet 16. I really hope our bracket looks nothing like this.

Not sure how we can call a 5 seed terrible. If you are on the 5 seed line, it is different/more difficult than being on a 3 seed line. Iowa could still move into that territory with a strong finish but losing home games to OSU and MSU has consequences.

And yes, playing Syracuse in the Sweet 16 would be more than likely a loss. But it would also mean we made it as far as the Sweet 16. When you haven't been to the tournament period since 2006 or won a game in it since 2001 just getting to the Sweet 16 would be fantastic, the rest would be icing on the cake.

Call me crazy but I'd love it. IMO its a tournament I want to play against the best. If we see Syracuse early so be it. I have a feeling that to win it all someone's going to have to go through Syracuse one way or another.

Although upon further reflection I would be alright with that 4 seed compared to the others but I'd rather play some mid-major than a major conference and I'd rather play any other one seed possibility.

I'd take the 5 line in the Midwest Bracket right now. Play FSU, Kentucky, and then Wichita State (or maybe Okla St if they get themselves straightened out).

Actually the 5 seed in the South would be fine too.

Okay, "You are crazy."

I didn't call the 5 seed terrible. I called that draw terrible.

Amen to that. If you offered me a 5 seed before the season started, I'd have taken it in a heartbeat. Heck, I'd still take it, to be honest, although I think Iowa has plenty of opportunity to play itself into a better seed before this comes to fruition. Just take care of business. Even if Iowa can move up to the 4 line, that improves our first round match up, and maybe we benefit from a 5/12 upset.

That said, Iowa seems to always get stuck in the region with the best, or "overall" #1 seed, so I fully expect Iowa to get plugged into the East region. I'd probably actually put money on it. I just hope Iowa can make it to the 3 seed line and stay on the opposite side of the bracket from Syracuse.

Syracuse.. An undefeated team that will lock us down defensively and won't let us get out in transition? Yeah, I don't like that match up at ALL.

IIRC, the last time Iowa even was placed in the Midwest region was 1991. 23 freakin' years ago.

Yeah, why can't we get an easy draw like say...........Northwestern State.

There aren't any easy draws in the big dance. As kicker22 said above, bring em on!

Okay, If Iowa is in Spokane, Memphis or St Louis, I am going.

My personal hope is Spokane, but St. Louis is best for the team and fans.

Didn't the NCAA decide to try to keep teams in more local pods in early rounds to get people in the stands? This Bracketology seems to completely ignore this issue.

There are no such things as easy draws in the NCAA Tournament. Agreed. There definitely are such things as brutal draws, however.

That said, I'm not going to panic over the match ups in Bracketology. There's no way to predict who is going to be playing who. It probably won't look anything like this. It's seeding that I am paying most attention to here.

As always, please put Iowa in the West. Look at Wisky...a #4 seed in the West. Much more attractive route to the Sweet 16 and then they get Arizona, the #1 in the West...and to me the most vulverable of the #1 seeds.

If Iowa could finish strong, they could end up with a #4 seed in the West and that would give them a true chance at pulling off the shocker and getting to the Elite 8 or FF.

^yup, really can't pay attention to any individual match ups or locations, but it does give you a good idea of where the team sits currently for seeding.

I'd take the 5 seed in the West before Midwest. Harvard and Wisconsin rather than FSU and Kentucky.

Agree on the south.

But the point being... the 5 seed isn't the problem, it's the draw.

As I said earlier IMO now that "we're back" I want to know we can compete with anybody. Whether its Syracuse, Arizona, or anyother potential #1 seeds. We're most likely going to have to play them sooner or later so rather be hoping for the "more friendly"/softer draw I want the big dogs. It's time to move past the "we belong" talk and its time to figure out where we belong. Want to be labeled a contender, then play one early and knock them out.

Regardless of where we are seeded, we've been away from the Dance for along time. To get that respect back we're going to have to earn it. Unfortunately I don't think we'll be considered a real threat, regardless of what the media says, until we display post season success rather than just a good regular season.

I've seen a couple of different Bracketology's.. And everyone has Iowa in the East. WHY? Is there some method to the madness as to which teams go to which regions? For the top seeds, yeah, but what about lower seeds?

Mainly, I just don't care to see Iowa in Syracuse's bracket. Is what it is I guess, but just wondering if the "Iowa to the East region" thing is coincidence or not.

When Lute Olsen took us to the Final Four, we were in the East region. We beat North Carolina State, who had a player named Hawkeye Whitney, a bald white guy, Syracuse and Georgetown to get to the Final Four......

This time the region seems to be the toughest.....

By the time the second round comes around it is tougher.....

Wherever we go, it will be Huge for the program and a thrill for me.....

Syracuse and Arizona might be the teams we really do not want to play.....

None the less, bring them on, one and all.....

Why are fans here so fearful of certain teams in Iowa's bracket? Iowa players and the coaching staff are not afraid of anyone. I'd like to see them play in the so-called 'toughest' bracket. It would make them tougher for the Final Four competition!
