Biggest benefit to the recruiting class might be practice

And the expectation are lowered before the season even begins. Nice. So you are saying that we are just beginning the rebuilding process 4 years in to Licks tenure at Iowa. NOW we have enough bodies to practice THEN we add quality depth THEN we start to win again.

Frustrating at the inability for some to understand that basketball is about individual talents and not some great concept about "heart".

Maybe your argument would make sense more if you were talking about the NBA, but look at Indiana, they have been bringing in great classes and what is their record this year?

Who is saying the expectations are lowered? Where do you draw this conclusion? Whether or not Lickliter likes the pressure, next year is his last chance if he can't get our team to play competitively.

You are correct Duffman, they will be much deeper next year which will benefit them in practice significantly. This will make them better in games. Assuming nobody leaves of course. With that being said, Iowa will be much better next year. I have said it all along, been ripped for it, but will stick to my guns.

The antagonists from Haternation can't get me down. I just think some of them would get tired posting the same thing over and over and over again. Certainly they have something better to do in life? Maybe not, but I fail to see how three years of Iowa basketball being bad really affects their lives much in the long run? But, you would think, by the way that some of them post that their hearts and souls are being ripped out.

No, we Haternation get ****** because you refuse to accept reality. Talk to anyone who knows basketball and they all acknowledge that Iowa is becoming what Collier made Nebraska.

Just because you tell yourself to ignore reality doesn't mean that the rest of us will. Nor does it make you a better fan than me, and I could argue it makes you a much worse fan.

More players will help, no doubt about that. But it wont be enough to make us relevant...not even close

And those of us that hold optimism for the future get ****** because of all the ******* and moaning that you and about 9 other people do on this board. NOTHING you have to say is positive.

It seems to me if you don't have anything to add on a particular subject you shouldn't say anything at all.

And yes I understood his post was sarcastic that was my point. You essentially came in to a thread about how 4-5 new bodies will help us practice better next year and said "Iowa Sucks". Sometimes these boards are like having a discussion with 5 year olds.

IAJay isn't really an Iowa fan anyway.

I'm not lowering expectations at all, in fact im raising them. Having competitive practice is going to help our veterans get more veteran and its also going to help our incomming freshman get seasoned.

Just not buying that our newbies will present a tougher matchup..not by much anyway.
Current backups:

Archie- healthy since mid-jan, he is our most athletic big man,and will be our most athletic big man next year also.
Cougill- our highest rated recruit this year.
Brommer- argubly, behind Fuller, our most improved player this year, who is a banger who must beat the hell outta our guys in practice.
Neari- looks like a reasonably athletic(football star in HS) guard who is similar to Gatens and cully in athleticism.
lil Lick- knows the system better than anyone on the team, pesky, and can knock down an outside shot.
Devan- senior captain who also knows the system well, and is a tough spot up shooter.

I am not convinced that the 5 newbies who will be a couple of years away from mastering this rocket science of a system, will present as much of a challenge as the 6 guys listed who know exactly what the first team guys are going to do,having been immersed in this system for a few years. The first teamers will be able to eat the rookies lunch just thru execution.

What great recruiting classe(s)? IU fell off the map of relevenat college basketball a little over two years ago when Sampson was fired and nearly EVERY basketball player left the program, remember?

In Crean's first recruiting class (2008) he added bodies. Nobody special and nobody above a 3-star. In fact, he added 7 players that year. In his 2nd recruiting class (last years) he added 6 more players just to fill up the roster. This class had three 4-star recruits which just happen to be the players that are 1st, 3rd and 5th in team scoring. Next year he is adding two more 3-star recruits to FILL THE GAPS. IU will be on the map next year and they will be young. Crean has approached this process in a very swift and very methodic method. Everybody in the basketball world knew they were going to suck because he basically brought in an entire team in two seasons.

At Iowa, we seem to want to "BANK" scholarships to save them for some future generation of hawkeyes that don't seem to be born yet. Why Lick didn't bring in a full roster from Day 1 is beyond most logical thought. We continue to recruit players that play the same position that our current "stars" occupy (SG). We have no TRUE big men and we have no TRUE PG on the team. We don't have slashers or drivers or athletes, we have spot up shooters and guys that have "heart". We're not recruiting to fill any gaps because 4 out of 5 positions on the floor ARE gaps. We have Fuller playing the 4 when he should be playing the 3. We have Gatens playing the 3 when he should be playing the 2. We have Cully playing point even though he couldn't dribble penetrate a stripper. We have Cole playing the 5 even though he is like 6'6". Nothing on this team makes sense and there is nothing in the works that is going to fix these obvious problems.

Even though we lack size and athleticism our coach finds it necessary to play man to man defense the ENTIRE game. Even though we can't find a way to dribble penetrate our coach finds it necessary to set high post screens and pull our 'bigs' out of the paint.

This is just stupid, stupid basketball at best and the greatest fleecing of a basketball program at least.

If that post were part of the game "Fact or Crap" i know which category it would fall into.

I would appreciate hearing some elaboration from you. What part(s) are "crap" and why?

What then do you see as fact?

Paragraphs 3-5 are pretty much all crap.

In short Cully is a true PG. Eric May is very athletic. Cole is closer to 6-8 than 6-6. I would consider Archie and Brommer both as "ture big men", Cougill also seems very well suited to be a big man in Licks offense. To my knowledge lick hasn't banked any schollies since he's been here and at the very least he hans't shown a pattern of letting them go unfilled, so the argument that Lick is failing at "bringin in a whole team" doesn't really hold water.

Unless the recruits are bringing in speed, Iowa will still be the slowest team in the conference. Slow equals bad. Even with a full practice squad, Cully Payne still will be the slowest point guard in the Big Ten.

Hey, Iowa may be small but they also are slow. Not a very good combination!

This is Creans second year, not third. He came in a year after Lick,Tubby and Beilein. His first class, after he was hired in April, was signed within a month of arriving...included two top 150 kids in Verdell Jones and Nick Williams...Williams played last year and then left. Jones has become their top scorer. Also signed Dumes, and Pritchard and a bunch of walkons.

Second class was top ten with Creek,Hull,Watford,Elston,Munizo, and Rivers.
Next year he has 2 top 130 guards, and he is looking for another big man.
For 2011,he has a commit from a top 75 player.

So fake fans go and support Iowa at every home game except a few due to work conflicts?

I wouldn't be surprised if there were more season ticket holders on these forums who were negative than positive. This is the most negative I have ever been regarding Iowa basketball. It's probably because I witness this mess up close and personal from my luxury seat in Carver. Perhaps if I just watched the games at home I wouldn't be as negative.

I guess I will find out next season, as I can't justify spending anymore money on this mess while Lick is in charge. I may go to a game here and there, but I won't be a season ticket holder. That's for sure.

This is exactly why your negative **** won't fly with me. Just because I disagree with some on this board, I never question their loyalty or claim I am a better fan. I will question your negativity and wonder how some of you can do it day after day after day, post after post after post?

I have posted on here hundreds of times why I think Iowa will be better next year. Perhaps I should just save it and post the same damn thing everyday. I bet many of you would think it would get old.

I understand what you believe after being on this board for awhile. I just tend to disagree with most things you say, which is fine. It is just the results show in no way improvement and while the new class will add depth it will not be the HUGE upgrade in talent that is needed. The results have "vindicated" the realists from the last off season and unfortunately will most likely do so again this off season.
