Big Ten Tournament Seeding

They need Purdue and Maryland to win to get the 4 seed. Otherwise they're the 5. That's because we own the 3 way tie breaker with Purdue and Wisconsin. But if Maryland loses and drops in a 4 way tie with us, we lose the tie breaker to 2 of the teams. I can't remember which 2 tho.

The last 2 years I was looking forward to playing a bad team to get another win. It didn't work out too well and we ended up getting bad losses. This year I'm of the opinion that only bad can come from playing a bad team.

When was the last time Iowa has played on the weekend in the Big Ten tournament? Feels like forever. They've been beat by a bad team more often than not or always get beat by MSU on Friday night. Alford era last time we played on Saturday? Woof.

My best guess is when we won the damn thing in 06

I obviously can't guarantee victory, but I like Iowa's chances of beating either Purdue or Maryland and making the semis for a likely 3rd shot at IU.. For all their talent, I just am not all that afraid of MD. Indiana looked like the far better team against them today.

Gotta get past Thursday, though! That's been a bugaboo the last couple years.

Maryland is just that one team where if they put it all together they have the talent to crush anyone. They have probably 4 NBA draft players. I think that's what scares me the most about them.

They looked pretty awful today though.

We may not have the horses like Indiana, but they pushed the ball, pushed the ball, and pushed it some more against M'land....I think we can do that and keep them off guard a little...who knows. Indiana can just flat out play ball though.. They're beatable & get'em on a neutral court, anything can happen

Exactly why Iowa wants Wisc to win. Maryland is suffering it's own struggles and is very beatable. Iowa has nothing to prove against Purdue but would have motivation to beat Maryland and can run them.

Purdue is getting hot. They are already going to overwhelm Woody / Uhl / Wagner inside, will dominate the glass, and body-up Iowa -- rebounding and physicality, Iowa's achilles heel. Not to mention, their guards are much improved. I simply do not understand anyone wanting to play Purdue.:eek:

I'm going to be in Vegas during the BTT. If Purdue hangs on, tonite, it will be a very profitable weekend betting Iowa on Thursday and Purdue on Friday.

I really wanted another shot at damn average Bucky. That game ticked me off worse than the others I think.

Purdue beat wisconsin so here's the official bracket

I like that bracket. Keep us as far from MSU as possible. We should beat Minny/Illinois winner and we know we can beat Purdue and I would love another shot at Indiana. Eventually when they play us they have to shoot just average.

Illinois is a scary team capable of winning. They have talent and athletes. And given Iowa has lost 7 opening games in 9 years, don't pencil Iowa winning this game first.

This is my fear as well. Iowa has a knack for coming out flat in the BTT lately. A loss against Illinois would hurt Iowa, a win won't do anything.

On BTN they said Iowa still had a shot at the double bye. Here are today's games that are relevant:

Maryland @ Indiana
Wisconsin @ Purdue

The only game that might be relevant is the Wisc/Purdue game since Iowa only owns a tie breaker over Purdue. I'm not sure how the tiebreakers work if Wisc, Maryland, Purdue, and Iowa all finish 12-6 and who gets the #3 seed.

OTOH, is a 5 seed all that bad? Iowa would play the winner of Illinois/Minnesota where a wins gives them a little momentum heading into the 4/5 game.

Thoughts?
Man can't wrap my head around being in a tie with a team u swept and being seeded below them. How did that happen?

well look at it this way...Iowa and Wisconsin have the same exact conference record but Iowa is seeded ahead of Wisconsin. There's a clusterf*** of teams at 12-6
