Big Ten Tournament Seeding

On BTN they said Iowa still had a shot at the double bye. Here are today's games that are relevant:

Maryland @ Indiana
Wisconsin @ Purdue

The only game that might be relevant is the Wisc/Purdue game since Iowa only owns a tie breaker over Purdue. I'm not sure how the tiebreakers work if Wisc, Maryland, Purdue, and Iowa all finish 12-6 and who gets the #3 seed.

OTOH, is a 5 seed all that bad? Iowa would play the winner of Illinois/Minnesota where a wins gives them a little momentum heading into the 4/5 game.

Thoughts?

They need Purdue and Maryland to win to get the 4 seed. Otherwise they're the 5. That's because we own the 3 way tie breaker with Purdue and Wisconsin. But if Maryland loses and drops in a 4 way tie with us, we lose the tie breaker to 2 of the teams. I can't remember which 2 tho.

The last 2 years I was looking forward to playing a bad team to get another win. It didn't work out too well and we ended up getting bad losses. This year I'm of the opinion that only bad can come from playing a bad team.

I don't get the 4 way tie, Iowa went 2-2 against Maryland (0-1), Wisconsin (0-1), and Purdue (2-0). If Purdue wins they are 2-0 against Wisconsin, Wisconsin is 1-1 against Maryland, and Maryland is 1-1 against Purdue.

Purdue 3-3
Maryland 3-2
Wisconsin 2-3
Iowa 2-2

So in that scenario wouldn't Maryland be the 3 seed and Iowa be the 4?

Thinking about this makes my head hurt. If they end up as the #4 or the #5 they avoid the one team that could steamroll them(Sparty). Of course I am assuming Sparty will end up as the #2 or the #3.

Right now i am debating if getting the double bye is important or not.

Edit: For some reason I thought MSU was 12-6 in conference play they are 13-5.....#@!$, all I know right now is avoid Sparty as long as possible.

I'm not exactly sure. I was running some scenarios through the generator and the only way we could get the 4 seed is if Maryland and Purdue won. I found it kinda funny how if Maryland loses, we finish in a tie for 3rd but have a worse seed than if Maryland wins and we finish in a tie for 4th.

Also I heard that the lose of the Purdue Wisconsin game is the 6 seed for sure.

Sparty has the #2 locked up.

Same, I think a win against Minn or Ill gives them momentum. But the double bye does help if they get into that semi final game, 3 games in 3 days are tough.

This article on BTN supports that, but looking at the other scenario's it is confusing on how they come to these conclusions.

How does Purdue get the double bye over Iowa?

I think it has something to do with the same round Robin record so the next tie breaker is how they did against the the highest ranked team.

I know if Wisconsin wins, we play Maryland at the 4 no matter what happens in the Maryland Indiana game (assuming we win our first game). If Purdue beats Wisconsin, Purdue and Iowa are the 4 and 5 seed no matter what. We switch spots depending on who wins the Maryland Indiana game.

Come Sunday around 6 pm or so Iowa will be either a #4 or #5? In another thread I thought someone posted worst case scenario was a #7 seed.

My thoughts:
I don't think the 5 would be all the bad as it would give us a winnable game to help continue to give us some momentum?

Also, I think I am good with anything, as long as we avoid Michigan State.

Last year iowa vs penn state, and 2 years ago iowa vs northwestern

Those are the 2 reasons I would much rather iowa got the 4 seed. If iowa lost as a 5 seed to illinois it would be pretty devastating

With Iowa being locked into either a 4 or a 5 seed and MSU clinching the #2 seed we don't have to worry about MSU unless both teams reach the finals.

Maryland vs indiana 3:30pm CBS
Wisconsin vs purdue 6:30pm BTN

If Indiana wins iowa is locked into a 5 seed.
Iowa can only be matched up with purdue or maryland in the 4/5 game.

As of right now this is iowas best remaining backet IMO. You could swap illinois with penn state...that is still possible

Sign me up for this right now.

If we were to somehow beat number 2 MSU in the championship game, what seed do you guys think we will get in the tourney? I think 3.
