Big Ten Blog ranks Michigan Stadium #6

I disagree about tOSU being better than the Big House. My opinion only. tOSU has obstructions, the Big House does not. I only experienced the Big House after renovations, so that is my perspective, I have no idea what is was like before.

I include atmosphere in these ratings, not just physical structure.

I hear ya. I wouldn't include Nebby in atmosphere. The tailgates are too spread out. Wiscy has a great party atmosphere, and you can feel the electricity in the area, it is a lot like Kinnick in this respect.

I can't speak to PSU yet.

In many ways, NWN is unique, and neat in it's own kinda small neighborhood kind of way.

Indiana and Purdue are absolutely horrible in my opinion.

I did like the parking situation at both TOSU and Michigan.

Just me,but I do really factor in the tailgating in these ratings,as I do not think it is part of the ''stadium'' rating per se....you might be right about Nebraska, tho,as I have never been. I have heard they have a quiet older crowd,so maybe Wisky is ahead of them.

After reading the comments on that Minny page we HAVE to beat them this year and in convincing fashion. What do they have to be cocky about? Brand new stadium and it ranks what 8th in the conference? haha! There fans are worse than that school in Lames.

This is a weird thing to care about (as far as using it as actual smack talking ammunition)

Based on atmosphere and the fun I had at each respective stadium I would rank them all similar.

Kinnick
OSU/Mich/Whisky

I had a blast at all three and would rank them all highly in different ways. Ive been to Whisky several times in some really good seats and the worst seat in the stadium, good times no matter what (Its also very close to home). Been to OSU twice, very fun and solid tailgating. Been to the Big House twice too. Really enjoyed tailgating on the golf course and had great seats both times so that was good too.

The BIG house use to be a BIG dump. Went there for the 2002 drubbing of the Wolverines, nothing like seeing 100,000 Michigan fans leaving at the end of the third quarter cause their team got there ARRRRSSEESS handed to them.

It was a great game but the stadium just looked so old. The cement steps in the stands were falling apart the press box looked like it could fall over at anytime. It looked so much better on TV at that time but all you saw when you went there was a old tired stadium back then.

There is also a statistic somewhere about the % of seats in the Big crapHouse that are outside of the 20 yard lines. It's a huge number, like 60% or something. Totally crappy viewing angles; way too many endzone and corner seats.

Well, I have been to Kinnick and The Big House and I would watch 1,000 more games at The Big House than Kinnick if it were up to me. I have not been to either since there have been renovations on both.

Being in the student section at Kinnick was kinda fun, but not all that much fun. Another game I was at the seats were not good and couldn't see that much, somewhere in a corner.
At the Big House, I have been to a few more games and different seats...there is no bad seat in the stadium...actually, I take that back. When we were at the Iowa game one year, we were in row 7 around the 20-yd line...we could see nothing down the sideline we were on. IMHO, the higher you go in Michigan Stadium, the better. We were at the PSU game where Manningham caught the TD pass to end PSU's chances for the BCS title game. For those that think that place can't get loud...it was louder than anytime I was ever at Kinnick.

There is one huge knock on the Big House...the seat you are assigned too is way to small...we haven't been back for a while because the last time we were there it wasn't a fun row to be in. At the Iowa game we were at it was really bad though, there was this guy two rows down from us that took up at least four seats and he was a total jerk about everything....telling people to give him more room.

Huge advantages at The Big House:
1. Parking, a lot of places to park. You don't have to walk for forever and a day to the stadium.
2. When the game is over...you can actually leave and get on I-94, or a main road in a reasonable time.
3. Everyone is treated with respect...yeah you have your jerks, but it is night and day, they are few and far between. It is funny to listen to other fanbases talk about the atmosphere at Michigan and then compare it to say...OSU or Wisconsin.

Michigan Stadium is very nice and so are the people, I can easily see how it is ranked #6 though; the criticisms that it has are true, but it really is a great place to watch a football game. The one thing that does bother me is the complacency of the fans.
I have never felt that way at Kinnick for whatever reason...I am not saying Kinnick isn't good, but I prefer to go watch a game at Michigan Stadium than Kinnick.

The Big House does get loud. Really loud now that is is completely filled in. IIRC boxes on both sides now.

Golfer's wife left him because she liked the big haus and he preferred Kinnick.
