Big Changes To Black Friday

NU-Iowa leaving Black Friday after 2019; rivalry rotation likely

Eichorst told Huskers.com, “Since moving to a nine-game conference schedule, it makes sense from a student-athlete health, safety and welfare perspective to play on Saturday at the end of the regular season."

Added Huskers coach Mike Riley, "I do not like to get out of the routine of what we do week to week to get ready for a game, so changing that is no fun for me because you always have a mystery of where your team is physically in what you need to do, and what you need to do in the actual preparation part of it.”

Was just learning to really really hate Nebraska. Oh, well, I HATE WISCONSIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you don't hate Nebraska it just means you don't know them very well. The Nebraska fans' big narrative is that they don't accept mediocrity (and Iowa fans do) and that's why they're better. How's that been working? The majority of them don't realize that they struck lightning in a bottle with Devaney and Osborne and they aren't really a blue blood anymore. No more than Minnesota. Nebraska doesn't have the natural recruiting advantages of a Michigan or tOSU. I did enjoy those beat downs we put on them on their Black Friday.

Im old fashioned...I liked Iowa Minney at the end of the season.
The Nebraska 'rivalry' is just recently conjured up. I'd rather skip playing them at all if that were possible. The Minnesota and Wisconsin rivalries are much bigger IMO.

I know they will switch things up again later, but this is just hilarious. Nebraska fans are fuming. I can feel the vapors from 30 miles away.

Lol The fuskers were brought in to prop up the west and they have failed miserably. Some blue blood! There's not 1 B1G team that fears the mighty fuskers! Purdue can't wait to play them!

I think its best that we return to the true traditions of Black Friday and spend the time as it was meant to be spent.

Huh, not one reaction to these wussy comments from huskerville.

Dang... I kinda liked playing Nebraska last. I thought that was a good tradition to have started. I think pulling the plug on it is pretty short sighted. I hate Wisky as much as the next guy but there's just some good ole fashioned rivalry hate to be had with Nebraska. Maybe it's because I was from the western side of Iowa and put up with Nebby fans a lot. But to me that's what I'd have preferred keep going... I must be in the minority
Agreed. If we must play them, it's best to play them very last.

That kind of talk isn't going to go over very well in Husker land. They love their Black Friday game and have been playing it for like 40 years? I'm betting at least one of those guys will be gone shortly, probably the AD. I saw they gave MR an extension. The AD is gone anyway if MR doesn't succeed so why not. Btw, we should like it to for the TV exposure. It's the only game that day right? Sounds like Kirk likes it because the players have a full weekend.

I read this as a signal OU is coming to the B1G. That's not so great for Iowa, as it means the West will be OU's to lose almost every year - their average season is a two-loss season.

It's like playing tOSU every year, and some years the schedule will include Mich, tOSU, and OU, with two of these on the road. I think Iowa has only beaten tOSU like 14 times, ever. Nebraska and Penn State were programs in their golden years. OU hasn't ever softened. Completely changes the perspective in the West.

This isn't a recognition that Iowa and Wisconsin are power players on par with the powers in the east. It is preparing to christen Nebraska, Oklahoma as the big two in the West to offset Michigan and OSU in the East, with Iowa/Wisconsin and Penn State/Michigan State to play the yearly foils.

The same argument was made for Nebraska, although the physicality of the B1G has been too much for them week to week. OU has a recruiting advantage (Texas) that I don't think Nebraska ever had. Plus, gone are the days of the dirty Osborne teams where they could get away with anything and not be held accountable.

Nebby was good because 1) they had a good coach. 2) had to win basically 2 tough games to win 10. 3) and this is the big one...got every talented kid within about 100 miles of Lincoln, had an enormous roster, and developed...it was a numbers game that ended in the late 90's.

Shut your whore mouth! The Trans Am is still the hottest car ever. Aqua Velva still drives the ladies crazy. And BugEaters football is still #1!!!

Nebby and Iowa has developed in to a decent rivalry (even though they hate to admit it) but overall I think the rivalry between Iowa and Wisconsin is much more intense. It goes back farther. Some in the northern part of the state would argue that Iowa/Minny is more of a rivalry for them than Nebby. Location does matter.
I just think they are pulling the plug on something too early. Let it continue to grow. The idea of shuffling the deck around every time there's a slight shift within the 'status' of the programs is just not a good idea and will leave fans bummed. To me you pull the plug on it if you think you have something better to start right or something more drastic than that? Ok well it sounds as if this is temporary too. They are going to be revisiting it all the time. How the hell do you start a tradition if your doing that? Again they have a good thing started and their impatience and greed is leading them to shake things up. I don't like the precedent that is setting that's all.
