After this weekend's results, my updated seeding predictions:

125
1. McDonough (IA) 8-0
2. Precin (NW) 7-1
3. Sanders (MN) 7-1
4. Pataky (PSU) 1-1
5. Boyle (MI) 5-3, lost to Olanowski (MSU) this weekend in an OOC (out-of-conference) dual
6. Brooks (IN) 4-4
7. Eppert (PU) 3-5
8. Kelliher (WI) 3-5
US – Olanowski (MSU), Touris (OSU), Arlis (IL)

133
1. Ramos (IA) 8-0
2. Long (PSU) 6-1
3. Graff (WI) 7-1
4. Futrell (IL) 6-2
5. Mele (NW) 5-3
6. Thorn (MN) 4-4
7. Stevens (MI) 3-5
8. Eren (PU) 2-5
US – Paddock (OSU), Ortega (IN), Lyon (MSU)

This is a very tentative #1 seed for Ramos. His argument is going undefeated in conference duals and owning a win over Long. If he would have beaten Futrell at Midlands, the #1 seed is a lead-pipe lock. As it is, Long (with wins over both Futrell and especially the win over Graff) has a legit argument for the #1 seed. As long as Ramos is on the other side of the bracket from Graff I’ll be happy. In addition, Thorn has a decent chance of getting the 5 seed over Mele. The both lost to the same 3 guys (Futrell, Ramos and Graff), but Thorn also lost to Long (who Mele didn’t face).

141
1. Russell (MI) 8-0
2. Marion (IA) 5-1
3. Kennedy (IL) 4-0
4. Thorn (MN) 6-2
5. Alton (PSU) 3-4
6. Friedley (NW) 5-2
7. Fleckenstein (PU) 3-5
8. Languis (OSU) 2-6
US – McQuade (WI), Richey (IN), Stace (MSU)

Big win by Montel Sunday. He’s getting either the 2 or the 3 seed. No idea how they’re going to determine who should get it between him and Kennedy. Both have one loss on the year to the same opponent (to Russell, Marion in the MI-IA dual and Kennedy at CKLV). Alton’s reputation should get him the 5 seed over Friedley, despite the difference in record.

149
1. Molinaro (PSU) 8-0
2. Nadhir (NW) 7-1
3. Kinser (IN) 4-2
4. Osterman (MSU) 6-2
5. Schmitt (WI) 2-3
6. Terrazas (IL) 4-3
7. Zilverberg (MN) 4-3
8. Grajales (MI) 5-3
US – Ballweg (IA), Patacsil (PU), Grandominico (OSU)

Kinser sat out the IL-IN dual due to an “injuryâ€â€¦let’s be honest, this was a pure seed protection. He’ll get the 3 seed (only losses are to Molinaro and Nadhir, head-to-head win OOC over Osterman). Mark more the likely has no shot of getting a seed here. This weight is pretty deep for the Big 10.

157
1. Taylor (PSU) 8-0
2. St. John (IA) 7-1
3. Welch (NW) 7-1
4. Zeerip (MI) 5-3
5. Salazar (PU) 5-3
6. Young (IN) 3-4
7. McMurray (MSU) 3-4
8. Morse (IL ) 2-5
US – Mincey (MN), Nemec (OSU), Perry (WI)

DSJ vs. Welch part 2 should be a good one. They’re both really good scramblers. I’m just glad DSJ is on the opposite side of Taylor.

165
1. Howe (WI) 0-0
2. Sponseller (OSU) 7-1
3. Yohn (MN) 6-2
4. Janssen (IA) 5-2
5. Polz (IL) 5-2
6. Yates (MI) 5-2
7. LeBlanc (IN) 3-4
8. Bialka (NW) 3-5

Wisconsin assistant coaches are saying Howe will be ready to roll in time for Big 10s. I really like Janssen in a rematch with Sponseller. He should have won that matchup. Against Howe, even with the long layoff, I don’t see Janssen winning. Sunday's loss was really tough for seeding purposes.

174
1. Ruth (PSU) 8-0
2. Manuel (PU) 7-1
3. Blanton (IL) 0-1 (L to Manuel, OOC Win over Heflin)
4. Glasser (MN) 5-3 (W over Manuel, Lofthouse, Heflin; L to Jordan, Zeerip and Ruth)
5. Heflin (OSU) 5-2 (L to Lofthouse, Glasser; 2 OOC Wins over Manuel)
6. Lofthouse (IA) 3-4 (W over Heflin, Zeerip; L to Jacobs, Ruth, Manuel, Glasser)
7. Zeerip (MI) 5-3 (W over Glasser, Jordan; L to Heflin, Ruth Lofthouse)
8. Jordan (WI) 3-4 (W over Glasser, Jacobs, OOC win over Zeerip; L to Zeerip, Manuel, Heflin, Ruth)
US – Jacobs (MSU), Roddy (NW), Avery (IN)

If Ethen wasn’t a freshman and wrestled smarter 3rd periods, he’d be looking at the 2 seed right now. Up by 3 in the 3rd, he needs to be under much better control. Why put yourself in that position? Just give up the TD and you win the match. Instead, he could be anywhere from 4 all the way down to 8th. Good Lord this weight is a cluster. No idea where to put Blanton. I feel pretty confident about the top 2 seeds; the other top 7 wrestlers are toss-ups seeding wise.

184
1. Rutt (WI) 7-0
2. Steinhaus (MN) 6-2 (L to Kissel, Rutt)
3. Gambrall (IA) 7-1 (L to Steinhaus)
4. Hinton (MSU) 5-3
5. Dallago (IL) 4-4
6. Wright (PSU) 3-4
7. Kissel (PU) 3-4
8. Magrum (OSU) 4-4
US – Collins (MI), Jones (NW), Cameron (IN)

Despite the better Big 10 dual record, Stenihaus's head-to-head over Gambrall rules the day. Not a huge difference between the 2 and the 3 seed though.

197
1. Brandvold (WI) 7-0
2. Lofthouse (IA) 7-0
3. Yohn (MN) 1-1
4. Brown (PU) 6-1
5. Powless (IN) 6-2
6. Biondo (MI) 4-4
7. Barczak (IL) 4-3
8. Capone (OSU) 3-5
US – Dickenson (MSU), Schoen (NW), Ruggear (PSU)

I’m assuming they’ll give Yohn the 3 seed over Brown, but Brown has an argument. Too bad for Yohn that PU had Brown duck Lofthouse in the IA-PU dual…a loss to Lofthouse (giving him 2 on the year), would help Yohn’s argument for the 3 seed. I don’t think they’ll give Lofthouse the 1 seed over Brandvold, but it’s possible.

HWT
1. Wade (PSU) 7-1
2. Alcala (IN) 7-1 (L to Wade)
3. Rasing (IA) 5-3 (W over Apland, Nelson; L to Wade, Alcala and McClure (MSU backup))
4. Nelson (MN) 4-3 (W over Apland, OOC W over Bugenhagen; L to Alcala, Wade, Rasing)
5. Apland (MI) 4-4 (W over Bugenhagen, OOC W over Alcala, Rizqallah, Bugenhagen; L to Wade, Alcala, Nelson, Rasing)
6. Bugenhagen (WI) 5-3
7. Rizqallah (MSU) 3-2
8. Kuhar (NW) 3-4
US – Walker (IL), Vukobratovich (PU), Stolarsky (OSU)

Good weekend for Rasing, not only his win over Nelson but also the results around the league. Rizqallah lost to both Apland and Bugenhagen, which was key. Those losses help negate Rizqallah’s win over Wade. Rasing gets the big jump all the way up to the 3 seed.

That gives Iowa the following:
McDonough #1
Ramos #1
Marion #2
Ballweg US
DSJ #2
Janssen #4
Ethen #6
Gambrall #3
Luke #2
Rasing #3

Thank you for your time and your predictions on seedings. Your thought process on each weight class was well thought out.
I agree losing at 174, 184 really mess up there seeds.

133 will be VERY interesting in how they seed it. I can honestly see them throwing all 4 names in a hat and drawing them out to see what happens. Either way its going to be a fun weekend!

Final prediction on those seeds:

125: McSteel over Precin
133: Long over Futrell (Ramos gets 4th)
141: Marion over Russell
149: Molinaro over Nadhir
157: Taylor over DSJ
165: Howe over Sponseller(Jans gets 3rd)
174: Ruth over Lofthouse(upset special #1)
184: Rutt over Gambrall
197: Lofthouse over Brandvold(upset special #2)
hwt: Wade over Raising(upset special #3)

I don't know if that will be enough to beat psu and there 5 champs I don't know but I sure hope so!!!

125- agree, bonus points up until Precin
133- I like Ramos over Futrell, lose to Long in finals
141- agree, this weight is stacked and not alot of opportunities for bonuses
149- I like Zilverberg as a dark house, Ballweg gets 4th
157- All of McD's bonuses will be offset by Taylor, DSJ 2nd
165- Janseen goes neutral throughout tourny and wins, Howe injury defaults
174- agree, however would not surprise me if EL wins. All loses were due to stupid wrestling, not opponents being extremely better. Even the loss to Ruth, there were times that if EL finishes he probably wins.
184- 2 weeks to work on conditioning, Brands push the right buttons and Gambrall is Big Ten champion
197- LL is on a roll, nothing is stopping this train. If he wins this tourny, look out for big things come Nationals
HWT- Same as 197.

Got my Hawkeye goggles on, but Brands will have them ready.

twade - I know some disagree with my assumption that B10 dual records are the primary factor (versus head to head), but it's hard to know advance results of the seeding meeting discussions. The 3 unseeded wrestlers receive a random draw for their first round competition, meaning 5 seeded wrestlers receive a bye in the first round. I realized I left Blanton (Ill) off at 174 (will he wrestle?...that could bump a few wrestlers down).
