Better Hope Minny wins a few this season

Can't see Tony leaving TV for another coaching job. Let alone Minnesota. But he would turn that program around if he went there. But I think he lives in Florida now and I doubt his wife would leave Florida for winter weather and the stress of football.

I like Dungy but him going to Minny doesn't mean that still wouldn't be a W for us. If couldn't get it done in Tampa and someone else came in and won with his players. He won one Super Bowl with the "best" players in Indy. If he had gotten it done in Tampa I might thing differently.
 
He has always said he likes the "mentor" role where he is free for any player on any team (nfl) if they have issues. And personally, I think he would be great in that capacity, but even if he doesn't come back to college, someone is going to replace Timmy in Minneapolis and it could be Zooker for all anyone knows, but the only thing that is for sure is they cant be any worse. so if minny can pull out one against sparty or wisky the brew crew has a chance for a stay of execution for another season
 
I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Dungy has said before he's not interested. And even if he DID take the job, don't be so sure he'd turn it around.

He's a great guy and a man of solid character. But his coaching accomplishments aren't as impressive in retrospect. (Note what happened in Tampa Bay after he left)

He took that once pathetic franchise to the NFC championship game where they barely lost to the most powerful offensive machine in football history.
 
Hmm, in looking at Dungy's career: Ok, he played for Minnesota in college. But he then spent one year (1980) as the defensive backs coach at Minnesota before moving on... to the NFL. That one year is his ONLY year of college football coaching experience.

And NFL coaching experience doesn't automatically equate to college coaching success and vise versa. Nor is there any guarantee that Dungy could recruit, particularly at a school like Minnesota.

I'm not sure I much logic in this move from either side.
 
I think he'd be a tremendous college coach, and he's probably one of the best people on the face of the earth.

I also think he'd welcome the role of a college coach, that of a teacher, in football and in life. The stresses of a college coach and an NFL coach are also night and day different.

He certainly took them from laughing stock to respectability. But Gruden took over and won the Super Bowl in his first year. And there are many that believe he should have gotten more than one title out of the Manning-led Colts.

I don't disagree that Dungy is a good coach, and an exceptional man. But resurecting Minnesota football will be no easy job.

First of all, winning "a few" isn't going to save Brew's job. Barring an utter miracle, he is as good as gone.

Secondly, I don't root for the rest of the Big Ten to suck. Maybe you do, but I don't. I would welcome Dungy into the conference, maybe he can make them into a good team.

I don't think he would take the job first off. Tampa and Indy didn't have the "best" players when he got there. He turned those programs around with the people around him. Great drafts I wouldn't put it past him if he took the job, he would turn aroound that program.

I think some people are smokin somethin on here.... Are you seriously telling me if Brewster beats Wisky and Michigan State (let alone just wisky by themselves) that he doesn't have a shot at sticking around? Wisconsin and Iowa are the only two games that matter to that school...the UW-MN rivalry is the oldest in college football. I'm not saying he will be guaranteed sticking around, but if Minny somehow beats Wisky Timmy's hot seat will simmer to a luke warm.
 
I can't believe that there are people actually questioning what an amazing coach Dungy is. What he did at Tampa was unbelievable. Even Chucky gave Dungy most of the credit for the Super Bowl win(announced that during his speech to the crowd after the game).

Having said that, there is zero chance Dungy wants to coach at Minnesota of all places.

Dungy actually has ties to Minnesota, so I would think if he wanted a college job, that would be one he would look at. He also said he doesn't want to get back into coaching at this time, so this is a non issue.
 
Given how the Gophs are doing ... I don't think that they have much hope this season. They could actually be decent next year ... however, that will get undermined by the fact that they'll invariably be breaking in a new coach. And with new coaches typically comes new systems. Thus, the Gophers will be out for the count until AT LEAST 2013.
