Best Case Scenario Starting 5 Next Year

If Iowa finishes strong on the recruiting trail this spring this is a starting 5 I could get excited about:

G- Gesell- He needs to shoot the ball better, but he's still a solid B1G point guard who will keep getting better.

G- Dickerson- I know that he's also a point guard, but he seems to have the quickness and athleticism our team lacked this year. I'm intrigued by a Gesell/Dickerson backcourt.

F- Atwood- The Iowa basketball program desperately needs athletic scorers, and Atwood seems to be both. Priority #1 this spring needs to be his recruitment.

F- White- If our coaching staff plays him as a true 4 next year he could have a monster senior season. If not his career will be remembered as what could've been. He absolutely has to learn how to be effective in a half court offense!

C- Woodbury- He answered a lot of critics this year, and if he keeps improving he'll be All-B1G.

*An Anthony Lee transfer would be nice too*

This is a big reach OP. But yes, we need a playmaker with a body.
Fingers crossed. We get one, things look more up.

I agree it's a reach, but it represents a talent infusion the Iowa basketball program needs. I realize their were many factors that led to our late season meltdown, but I think we all can agree that we need better players.

I like how now we want all these transfers, after people have been blasting ISU for 4 years for doing things the "wrong way"

Can Fran handle the egos of these transfers like Hoiberg? We will see.

Iowa needs to upgrade it's talent level by any means necessary. Within NCAA guidelines of course. ;)

Sorry but yikes at this starting five...

Not one shooter on the court.

I really do not care who starts. However, I would like to see more minutes for the key players. This year only Marble and White averaged more than 25 mins per game. There should be 4 or 5 above 25 mins.

There is a huge difference in my opinion between taking a juco transfer and a D1 transfer that has been kicked off of another team. I am ok with the former, I do not support the latter.

It pretty much boils down to this. If people were honest with themselves, we pretty much finished where we should've based on talent (probably should've been above Fuskers). We have a roster full of role players. For Fran to keep the program moving in the right direction we desperately need to upgrade the roster with speed and athleticism. Does anyone think Iowa has a player that would start at any of the big boys in the conference?

"The right way" getting pretty tired of hearing that on here to be honest.. I'd say Fran has been a great judge of character based on our current recruits/players.. so if he feels these guys (juco recruits/transfers) are correcting their past mistakes then they absolutely deserve a 2nd chance.

As for the lineup I'd really like to see Gesell, Jok, Atwood, White, Woodbury

Hawks roster full of many good, no great player (marble great at times) first team and backups are interchangeable and even more so next season. Fans will have plenty to squawk about when they don't like the rotation. Upgrades are possibly at very position as all the players have warts.
Team will battle to make Dance and have plenty of ups and downs, but they are somewhat relevant again.
Go Hawks!

1-Dickerson/Gesell
2-jok/oglesby
3-uthoff/jok
4-white/olaseni
5-Woodbury/olaseni

If we don't get Atwood then may god help us all

Current players and recruits is second division Big Ten lineup. Its going to take a real surprise (maybe Jok) and some very good coaching to get us back to the big dance. The Big Ten wont be great but some of this years second division Illinois, Minnesota, Purdue will be better and Nebraska has already made a move. You know Michigan and Mich State as well as Ohio State have more talent and good coaching. I hate to say it but Wisconsin could challenge for it all.

While I'm not sure his addition to the team is that important next year's team could really use a player like him. ;)

Uthoff will be starting next year. I'd bet $20 on it.

G - Gessell
G - Ogelsby
F -White
F - Uthoff
C - Woodbury

Jok, Clemmons, Olesani first off the bench.

This won't be a bad team at all. Maybe they'll even figure out how to win.

Lol I love how people ***** about not being able to score next year but want two PGs on the floor.
