Beneventi Not A Hawk

So does this mean that Boyle and Cook will stay at QB? I know most kids, especially QBs, don't want to switch positions but I remember Boyle to S and Cook to TE threads on here. Maybe not.
If CJB transfers and the above mentioned don't stick at QB, what's left in the clipboard cupboard? Wiegers?
Unless the staff has another target in mind, I'd rather have a 6-6, 200# kid that played QB on scholly than a 2nd punter.

I remember Boyle being asked in an interview just before or after the state title game about all of these position changing rumors at Iowa and he just laughed. He said he hasn't played defense since he was in 7th grade. Based on his reaction I'm pretty certain he's going to be strictly a QB.

I believe Cook was also asked about changing positions and he sounded much more open minded. He gave the politically correct response. Something like "I'm just excited to get to play at Iowa and we'll see what happens". Personally, I think Cook will end up at TE.

Players change their mind all the time when 'better' offers come in. Hence, schools can change their mind when a prospect under performs.

FFS.. a bunch of you were ****** this kid was going to get a scholly with the numbers and season he had. Now you're ****** they did what seemed like the logical move and moved on from the kid. There really is no win with a lot of you.

I, for one, thing this is a good move and should have been made weeks ago. I also think we have no need for two scholarship punters and two scholarship place kickers. With that said, it's not like we are getting tons of commits and have not enough scholarships for them all. This staff has a hard enough time filling up a class with kids who have other D1 offers.

Recruiting is a dirty business and there are no innocents. People lie to each other all the time, every coach and handler or mentor has an agenda. The fastest way to win is to get better players, and the teams that win the most have an assembly line going in and a less visible one leading out. Some teams offer 75 kids when they know they can only sign about 25. Nobody can claim moral high ground in these things. Everyone has blood on their hands. "That's recruiting."

SIAP but I’ve heard Beneventi has a bit of an attitude. As in not that coachable. He threw 12 td’s to 14 int’s and got benched at the end of the year while Boyle and Cook won state titles. Markel Smith and Willies being on scholarship next year is looking more likely so that might have pushed it over the edge.

What's it say about our fan base that we can't even get on the same page on something like this? The guy had more picks then tds in HS this year. I don't care if he's got Jeff Georges or Jay Cutlers arm if he's not a good qb I don't want him. JR had video game numbers for stats in HS. He played on the premier hs in the country really. Now that doesn't guarantee anything either but for crying out loud I'd recruit a kid like JR again instead of going this route. Lets go after winners and kids that have done well in HS. If a kid isn't any good in HS then what on earth makes you think he can get coached up by our staff just because he's tall and has a good arm?..

better to be cutthroat than to waste a scholly

+1000. If Beneventi was not looking like a Big Ten calibur athlete, then I support this move. Kind of like if you accept a job with a company making $50,000/yr, and the next day, you get a job offer for $70,000. What are you going to do? 99.9% of us would take the better paying job, and call the other company and say "Um, change of plans.."

Nobody ever said life was fair.

A more important question. What does it say about the coaches they expect loyalty to be a one-way street?

I'll repost here what I said on another board:

I feel genuinely bad for Jack B after all that has gone down with him the last seven months or so. First, his grandfather is ill and in bad enough shape that Jack and his parents have to move across Chicago to be near Jack's grandfather. Next, Jack switches to a school closer to where he moved and he has to learn a totally new offensive system. Third, he really struggles on the field and ultimately gets benched. To top it off, Iowa pulls his scholarship offer.
I still believe that Jack is a very talented QB. I think if things had gone differently for him on a personal level, he may have had a great season and we'd all be pumped for him to be a Hawkeye. Obviously that isn't the case, and I hope Jack can land on his feet some place. I just hope this doesn't come back to bite the Hawkeyes.
All this said, I don't blame Iowa for pulling the scholly. If they don't think he can ever be a starter, there's no need to him to have a scholarship. College football is a business, and I'm glad the Hawkeyes are treating it like one. I just feel for bad for Jack. I'm sure that this is not at all what he dreamed his senior year of high school would be like, and I hope he can bounce back strong from all this.

Watch this kid go to ISU, and go all Steele Jantz on us repeatedly. Not a a KF fan any more, however long I can't decide if this is a classless move, or just business. It is kind of disappointing in that I kind of expect more for KF, I guess he has finally realized his main coaching weakness is in developing QBs and GD hasnt improved that any.

I've been critical of this staff and will continue to be until the mediocrity and personnel decisions cease to suck. However, this is a good move. Overhyped qb who lost his starting job in high school. I'll stand by this one.

Interesting because didn't this kid sort of go back and forth a bit about his commitment.... That he was still going to explore other options? His poor numbers this year are a head scratcher.

That, and the number of people who previously said they "wouldn't mind seeing his offer pulled" now using this to jump on KFs integrity/character.

One thing is clear: we officially have the dumbest, most hypocritical, short-sighted fan base in NCAA football. Actually, ALL of football. Period.
