Barta fires warning shot to Ferentz

Barta's firing of the baseball coach was warranted but it was also a warning shot to Ferentz. Someone in the AD's office who usually answers all my questions honestly, really tip toed around the question, but his body language answered it for me.

I did promise to raise my donation if Ferentz is not there next year. He did say that was a growing trend.

No way this guy won an Orange Bowl. Also hes quite the hit at media days.....they just cant get enough of the Kirk charm.

It's nothing of the sort, in my opinion. There is going to be a Ferentz-led 2014 season at Iowa, unless Kirk decides against it. It's not even worth debating

I just assumed he was trolling. Was that a serious post by taffaej?

I don't think the money is there, based on their budgets for new facilities in the athletic department. They've issued some bonds, and the remainder of their aggressive construction schedule is in large part based on donations.

In any event, the buyout is still fairly significant, and the only way he goes is if they ask him to go, and he goes voluntarily.

I could be wrong, but economics usually wins out every time. The U of I, if nothing else, is a billion dollar operation, and they are fond of money, so I doubt I'm wrong.

That is not true. They go under .500 again he will have a tough time keeping his job.

This is based on your feelings. In reality, these decisions are based on dollars. Ferentz is still owed $2.75 million per year remaining on his contract, through 2020. After this year, that is seven years. That is $19.25 million dollars Iowa would owe him, on top of a minimum commitment of at least $2 million per year for five years for a replacement. So here on the planet earth, Ferentz being fired without cause is simply not in the scenario for at least two or three years, IMO. This was one of the most favorable to the coach contracts a coach has ever signed in college football history.

Maybe the "someone" had to take a leak and you were in the way.

Two questions if it wasn't for the contract do you think kf is coach today ? And money wise if we are looking three years in 8.5 million off the books that big of deal ? Or about the right amount ? Or not enough ?

LOL..................and one of the most foolish contracts ever to be offered. It never ceases to amaze me how dumb this really was no matter the success that was be had at the time. Doesn't Barta have to get big donor approval before he offers a contract like that?

haha, Golfer sure likes him some Golfer.

Agreed 100% What this season will decide is if KF plan to retool the program is working or not. If he has put the right people in place. It may decide if he finishes his contract but he will be here in 2014 unless he decide not to.

And to the OP, was Dahm fired or was his contract not renewed? I thought his deal was up and they moved in a different direction.

Your missing the point Freed. Pretty sure the big donors were for the contract

The thought of Gary Barta hiring a head football coach is terrifying.
Under no circumstances should this be allowed to happen.

None of this matters, though, because nothing is going to change in IC under the current administration at the University level. They simply don't care about athletics. Which is incredibly ignorant for a group of supposedly brilliant folks.

Trey I have a question for ya. I agree and in fact I think they resent the FB program. So in a state where the people of Iowa love their Hawks so much. How do these people get ahold of out State School ??

That's the bottom line. The people hoping and praying that Ferentz doesn't get another year of "mediocrity" are going to be disappointed. I don't think this team will have 8-9 wins (7 is my high water mark) and I think Ferentz will be Iowa's coach not just next yr but 3 more if he wants to. I don't think Iowa will put any pressure public or not on him to step down any sooner then that regardless of the state of the program.
