Barry Alvarez Would Never Have Let His HC Keep Brian Ferentz On Staff

Last 3 or 4 bowl games for the B1G West

MN - beat WV in 21, Beat Auburn in 2019, beat GA Tech in 2018
IA - Lost to KY by 3, Beat USC in 19, Beat Miss State in 18
WI - Beat Az State in 21, beat Wake in 20, lost by 1 to the Ducks in 19, beat Miami in 18
Purdue - Beat TN last season, got rolled by Auburn in 18 and beat Zona in 17

That's the 4 best programs in the West as of late, they seem to be doing ok or at least holding their own against other divisional foes in the P5 on the field as well.

It's not even the weakest conference division in the state.
You are so annoying when you resort to posting factual information.

He did have some good years, you are so, so wrong about his record vs Iowa. He was also essentially a game or two above .500 in conference play
Since 2010 Iowa is 2-8 against Wisconsin. You are so, so wrong.

I don't understand the question. Was Sleep Dalton or Coluzzi that bad?
Put another way...and just having fun... I personally like the style....I feel that our coach thinks that's the best way for Iowa to be competitive.

Hone in on that our coach thinks that's the best way for Iowa to be competitive.....

And reconcile that statement with Rastetter being what the coach thought was the best way...
And CJ, Brad Banks, Stanzi, and other things.

I seriously doubt Rastetter was close to being the best punter on that team.

Personal story. I was at the Illinios Family Day and the kickers were letting kids and dad's...kick.

OK, I'm a soccer player/coach. I'm not young. I walked up and put a 40 yard field goal right through the uprights. Then I did a 2 step kick right through at high from 48 yards. (OK I'm bragging) One of the receivers punted the ball back and hit it a mile high and about 60 yards. NOT a punter on the team. The real situation is that Iowa likely had 5 players or more that could have punted better than KF's man.

I just don't know what he is thinking, but keeping the good of the team the biggest factor.... Why does he do certain things? I doubt BF is his best offensive mind among the coaching staff. Just seriously doubt it. I would guess that the DC could do better for sure.
Kirk was just greasin’ Bruce’s cheeks playing Rastetter. We all know it.

If this were going on at Wisconsin during Alvarez's tenure as AD it would most certainly happen. Without a doubt. And Alvarez would have donor support.
Barry would just fire the head coach. As a living legend, he'd get a pass for doing that. And Wisconsin would be successful again, because they have a winning culture (at basketball and football).

I don't know this, but I have a feeling if they put more concentration on that side of the ball, you'd see a drop off in other areas. They've recruited to be this kind of team, recruit differently and you become a different kind of team. I'm not defending our offense, it's fucking terrible, but I am defending our program as a whole. Barry would be Kirk's little bitch and he would say "please just keep winning a lot of games and you can do whatever you would like"
Is that you Kirk?

This thread has turned foolish.
"I'll bet we could beat the B12 champ!" has little relevance to the OP.

Let's re-phrase the question...
Would any P5 team with a championship level defense and championship level special teams continue to be held back by a bottom 10% offense for 5 years without making any changes?
No. What would be the purpose? Stifle excellence and championships?

Brian is running the offense his dad demands. It's a run first, field position, possession, value the ball, old school offense. My guess is that the coaching staff is much more concerned about the OL and downfield blocking than the QB. With a 10-4 season last year and sold out stadium for this season, the Hawks need to be staring at a losing season or two before changes to the offense will be forced on KF.

KF likes "yes man" coaches, that's for sure. For all the reasons you point out.

Holy shit, your reason that Kirk sucks is because you did well in punt pass kick drill?

Nah, Rastetter was never supposed to be the punter. They spent a scholarship on a highly regarded punter (Gersonde) who should have been the guy for the 2 years Rastetter punted ('17 and '18). But he couldn't stay healthy. As soon as it was obvious Gersonde couldn't stay on the field, Iowa hammered the transfer market. They got Sleep-Dalton to supplant Rastetter for his final year. You could argue they should have done that a year earlier, but KF would have gotten roasted for spending a scholarship on a punter when he already had a freshman punter on scholly.

No, I just threw that in there. The issue is and one that you refuse to address is why did Rastetter do the punting. On a team with that many athletes I can guarantee you than there are 10 players minimum that can really kick the ball better than who was trotted out.

Why can't you just recognize the inconsistencies? You side step the issues at every potential step.

KF is "trotted" out as a coach of extreme consistency when there are some pretty extreme inconsistencies about him. If anything he is consistently inconsistent on a number of points and yet consistently holds to areas he shouldn't be consistent is.

An example that when a big game happens when they allowed Wadley to run wild against OSU, the consistent thing is that he would allow it again and didn't.

In 2002, BB for his playing time was in on an inordinate number of scores compared to KM. He was consistent in that he didn't consistently play the QB that consistently produced. His best QBs have been his mobile ones but he consistently plays the QBs that consistently can't move the ball when things break down.

KF consistently talks about team and acting (my words) as a cog in the wheel and being completely supportive of those he wants to play and yet caved when he allowed CJs family to act selfish and expose a privileged mentality of threatening to take their ball to another playing field. Yet Fant seemed to be punished. Again, pretty high inconsistency.

You consistently portray KF as consistent when he really isn't.

Again, on a team with 85 scholarships given to high level athletes, he had a pool to draw from. KF was not a victim of injuries.

He’s a consistent winner and that’s the bottom line bub

Naive to think it is so easy that you can just grab one of those other 85, and they will be superior to Rastetter. He stunk ranked against his FBS peers (other punting specialists), but he is almost certainly better at that very specialized skill than those other guys. While there were probably a few guys with punting experience who could have surpassed Rastetter with dedicated training (e.g., Nate Stanley, who was a good HS punter), are you really going to take your starting QB and consume 30 minutes of his practice time with punting? Likewise for everyone else on the 2-deep.

KF didn't want Rastetter punting, he tried to replace him (gave a scholarship to one of the top HS punters in the country), and things didn't work out. Blame him for not having a better backup plan, blame him for reacting to the problem too slowly...but this conspiracy-theory stuff is a bit hard to swallow.

He was bad. No way the only option. The situation looked bad. It is naive to blame all situations as no possibility of conspiracy. It happens. It happens in courts. Happens in Govt. Happens in school boards...and so on. Happens in HS sports boosters.

And know not likely Stanley. Tom Tupa might disagree.

Some of you are too young to remember. Wasn't Danny White the Cowboys QB and regular punter in the NFL?

When you are a top 25 P5 school and you have the statistically worst punter in all of D1 football (not exaggerating, stats are there for everyone to see), you do t just let that ride. At that point you hold walk-on tryouts at the local WalMart parking lot.
