Band Member's Social Media Post

Someone should tell this kid how this works. The burden of proof lies with the accuser. If there isn't any, how can an investigation be continued? The police say they weren't notified at the time of the event. The school's put out a presser condemning it. If there was some sort of proof, or if the individual had been apprehended at the time of the incident then I would expect the investigation would continue. How can arrests be made? What would the correct action be in his mind be? How does the UofI not have their backs?

Someone needs a suspension. Just can't help yourself, can ya kid?

What surprises me, is that there are no security measures for something like this. Do we not know what to expect in Ames? Come on people...prepare.

My guess is the band realizes they aren't going to get anyone arrested absent more evidence, but if someone has broken ribs and there are 50+ witnesses, that is plenty of evidence that something happened and chickenshit Barta needs to come out and say something more so people can understand the level of thuggery that flies in that shithole city that is basically a giant Wal-Mart.

Well, Barta probably learned his lesson from the last time he got the University sued and is just going to play dumb (though we must query if he is really playing). If they didn't have a cadre of state troopers or police escorting them through the parking lot, either UI or ISU (whoever is responsible for security) is flat out negligent. It is absolutely forseeable that some cro magnon from Ames is going to take pot shots at those kids. Hell, we already know ISU fails at security because they let the Iowa locker room get robbed.

There were four contracted police officers with the band at all times during the game.

“After collecting information Monday and Tuesday, we realized it would be difficult to verify details and elected to focus on moving forward toward future events,” Barta said.

So...
1. Where were the cops from? ames or were they state troopers? (yes, I'm inferring what you think I am)
2. Does "during the game" mean only in the stadium during the game?
3. If the answer to #2 is "Yes", then it's irrelevant to the acts in question which happened after the game. If the answer is "no, the whole time they were on the grounds"...then why didn't they do their job?

This quote from Barta is gutless. “After collecting information Monday and Tuesday, we realized it would be difficult to verify details and elected to focus on moving forward toward future events,” Barta said. I'm so sick of this gutless pussy.

If a band member was knocked down as alleged and has broken ribs...there are plenty of witnesses. You may not be able to ID the perp, but you can sure as hell prove that it happened since a good chunk of the band saw it and we have documented physical injuries.

If there is 50+ witnesses, then arrests should be made and frankly quite simple.

When I first learned of this story I pretty much figured that the resolution would end up as it is now. Right now it is like the he said, she said scenario. The fact a band member willing went public with plausible events makes me wonder if the athletic department really does not want to address this issue strongly enough. I also believe the setting in which this occurred may have been a contributing factor. Tired, inebriated, and bitter fans were getting rid of their frustations after a loss. The band was an easy target. I'll just say a few years off on this series is in order. Time to let tempers cool down.

Not sure what to make of that band members social media post. I think something bad happened to the band, but sounds like Barta is going to ignore it now. Maybe this band members post will ignite it.

It's not what you know, it's what you can prove- everybody knows that!

I still think it's strange there is apparently no video.

But, giving the kid the benefit of the doubt on that, why the F would you even involve Barta?

Even if he was a semi-competent AD, that doesn't make him a go-to guy for this. Nobody at the UI is- should be a police thing.

Going to the UI makes it seem like they know they have no proof and just want the UI to fight for them anyway.

Whom do the police arrest? That's the problem.

Police - "Can you give us a description of the person who pushed you and broke your ribs?"

Victim - "Yes. He was a toothless man, wearing an Iowa State shirt, jean shorts and an Iowa State hat. He reeked of Busch Light and looked like he was just leaving a Klan rally."

That description basically fits like 30,000 people around the stadium that day.

The band was marching so it is not surprising they don't have video. Barta needs to put up a $10k bounty for information leading to the arrest and conviction of this hooligan. He'll find his man quickly. Do you know how much meth Clown fans can buy with $10k?

exactly....so, how is that the UofI not having their back? What can they do? End the ISU game. That seems like a strong over reaction IMO, but I think that's what is being expected from the band camp. What can the U of I do to make them happy? They can't make the arrest. I am sure the student who was injured is being taken care of as far as medically. My guess is they are already planning more security for road games and probably re-structuring their game day process for the band. I just don't see how the U of I doesn't have their backs.

A triggered, mob mentality-driven, self-made victim who's seen too many SJW success stories on his social media timelines and will wish when he's 30 that he didn't have the brain and (lack of) impulse control of a 20 year old when he made that post. What's to see here, folks?

An entire flock of band nerds, every single one with a cell phone surrounded by 60,000 people with cell phones and 4 cops who probably had body cams, god knows how many security cameras, and enough $50,000 720p network television cameras to broadcast a major football game, and no one saw or recorded anything? Get the F outta here Corey, and take your imaginary broken rib friend who apparently shall remain nameless with you.

You ever seen those trumpet tooters during a game? Every single one of em is glued to their phones the entire time doing their best impersonation of an instagram influencer. And you're going to tell me the whole group of 'em endured beer bombardment, assaults, shoves, slaps, and broken bones for an entire game and no one posted video of it to there twitter accounts?

I'm against people getting beat up, but only when it happens in real life.

Ol' Corey Knopp shouldn't be taking life lessons from Jussie Smollett.

Overreacting with a cringey, crowd-frenzied, teenagey, fight the powa, "Hell no, we won't go" idealism is nothing new to kids your age, Cor-Dawg. But it rarely ends well when you blast it out there for everyone to see. You're gonna learn this lesson the tough way, kid.
