Backup QB

Well, there goes another dual-threat QB.
Which FCS school gets him?
I could never figure out why he didn’t go to the Big 12 anyway. Running QBs don’t thrive in the Big Ten other than at OSU, and even then the advantage is debatable because their OL is so talented and deep to begin with.

He’s a square peg in a round hole in some respects, and I can’t imagine trying to possibly have two different schemes ready to go. In my opinion you should find QBs that naturally fit your system instead of changing your system to fit a QB.

The other thing I don’t like about run threat quarterbacks if that the potential for injury is just ridiculously high. Even if it’s not a season ender all those nagging injuries pile up by the end of the season which is the worst time to have them. I’d bet my house Nebraska is going to run into that problem with Martinez before all is said and done.

So much low IQ going on here. He wasn't forced to go to Iowa. The coaches offered him a scholarship. What do you think was said during the recruiting process? Nebraska, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Iowa, NW, Illinois, Indiana, etc have had DT QBs over the last 20 yrs. Think before you post.

It may have gotten lost with the other noise today. KF announced that Petras is the No. 2.

Well, that says a lot I guess. wonder if Iowa can score enough points to make F&F comfortable enough to play a #2 Quarterback prior to 36 seconds to go in the game?

I’m not surprised.

Petras canon arm.
Size.
Wasn’t he a 4* ?

I think he's about 6' 8 . Heard that he threw a football from the warf of the SF shipyards and it landed on Alcatraz but bounced into the bay....still that's pretty good. another time he threw the ball over the golden gate bridge from the deck of a ship and then caught it when the ship steamed below

Running QBs don’t thrive other than OSU? How many times did McSorley tear our hearts out??

Compare him vs Mansell in HS. Mansell played way better competition. Stats were off because he was pulled in a few blowouts. I do favor Texas HS football though....lol
I don't disagree with what you said (and I realize you weren't disagreeing with me). My post was in support of Petras. I also think Mansell would be fine, based on what I've seen of him, and I hope my post didn't seem like a knock on Mansell in any way.

Not at all. I’ve been a big critic of the star system and film for years. The district I watch every year had a kid who if you looked at his stats and film you would’ve wondered why he wasn’t a 5star. Watch him in person and realize he was soft as a pillow. I hope Mansell bounces back because he is Iowa hard nosed football. Y’all would love him if they let him play his game.

Jeez based on his ability to accurately throw the long ball, maybe he should be the #1. He looks great.

ya, but..... can he block?

at iowa, the ability to get the team in and out of the right play and execute the outsize zone goes a long way. remember, offense is optional at iowa, punting is winning. staff does not care that he threw the ball over the golden gate bridge

Ugh that really sucks for Mansell. I was looking forward to watching him play, it was awesome that he stuck with us too through the Eno garbage that happened, I was really rooting for him. Petras must be the real deal then, which I guess is good for us.
Petras was O'Keefe's guy all along. I'm not surprised. His high school highlights looked like college stock footage. I just really wish that Iowa would put in some packages for Mansell. It would give us a new look and keep a valuable back up in Iowa City. Especially near the goal line.
