Back to a #1 seed

Had to look it up..........

NCAA started seeding in 1979. Iowa has achieved a #2 seeding once in '87 and #3 seed twice in '81 and '06. We've never enjoyed a #1.

Our only #2 seed took us to the Elite 8. Our two #3's resulted in a first and second round elimination. The 1980 Tourney was our best as a #5 seed and making the Final Four.

I wouldn't be worried about losing as a 1 seed, but 2 and 3 seeds are losing far more often lately it seems. It just seems to be something with state of Iowa teams not named UNI that they suffer an unusual amount of bad luck. Iowa losing to Northwestern State on a falling out of bounds, off balance, highly contested miracle three. Drake losing on an almost half court shot. ISU's early flame outs against Hampton and UAB.

Ill gladly take a 1 seed, wouldnt think twice about it. I dont see a way a bunch of seniors let their team lose to a 16 seed that they are favored by 25 points against, in Des Moines, a place they have played in every single year.

1 seed basically has a 99.9 percent chance of winning their game. Freaking out about the .1 percent chance of losing that game is odd.

Oh I'd definitely take the 1 seed.. I want it.. But I'd be glad when Iowa won that game and avoids becoming known as "the first". I still believe a 16 will beat a 1 someday. There's been some very close calls.

Death, Taxes, and Iowa getting screwed on seeding. We could win the Big Ten, but if we lost in the first or second round of the Big Ten Championship, I could see us drop to a 3rd seed....Iowa NEVER draws a break on seeding.

The #1 seed has advanced to the Sweet 16 and astounding 85% of the time, that number drops all the way down to 64% as a #2 seed and that includes 7 1st round upsets to #15 seeds. In case you are curious the #3 seed only reaches the Sweet Sixteen 52% of the time with 20 1st round upsets to #14 seeds. So I'll roll the dice on the best possible seed Iowa can get.

Win the Big 10 and we are guaranteed no worse than a 2 seed. And we will be playing in Des Moines. I'm not even saying IMO on this one. It's guaranteed.

You would have to go all the way back to last year to find a time Iowa got a favorable seed. I do agree we normally seem to get screwed tho.
