At what point has Kirk seen enough to give the keys back to O'Keefe

Quick questions:
--Did Brian call the fumbles by the punt return team?
--Did Brian call the D signals on Wisconsin's last drive?

That said, there were some head-scratchers, but also some fantastic calls, too.
Brian called about 80-85% of a great game. I was not impressed with his red zone play calling or what he called in the 4th quarter. The team moved the ball well until the 4th, but we needed 14 points on those two trips down to the 5 and we came up with 3. Sorry, bud, but I think this Iowa team is at least 10 points better than Wisconsin. I don't think Wisconsin is that good this year.

Just a few thoughts on the I/W game: Iowa yards per run average = 4.8. W. yards per run average=4.8. Iowa total yards, 404. Until the last meaningless W drive, they had one more yard in total O than Iowa. Iowa gave up 0 sacks. Iowa's 54 offensive snaps averaged 7.5 yards per snap. This is not exact, but from my failing memory, W averaged about 9 yards per pass completion; Iowa averaged 11 yards. Until the winning drive by W, which was very impressive, their last 9 possessions ended with punts on 7 occasions. In short, W's O, after their first score, and before the winning drive, did nothing. Thanks to HawkCentral for most of the above.

Iowa's average Total Offense ranking with KOK as OC: 67.92 (62.18 if you take away the first 2 seasons)

Iowa's average Total Offense ranking without KOK as OC: 96.16
Yeah but offenses then were different around the country back then too. Their weren't the Chip Kelly style inflation of offensive stats around the country their has been the last 5 plus years already. I can't say theirs any way of knowing for sure but I would think if KOKs style of O would be similar to what it was then now it wouldn't be ranked as high based on what others are doing... Just not totally apples to apples

Y'all should listen to Jon & Steve's latest podcast. Steve pointed out something about Iowa's offense versus P5 teams under BF. Let's just say I don't think Steve is a fan of BF.

The excuses get dumber and dumber. Wow!

The biggest gripe I have with the O wasn't so much the play calling as it is personel usage. I was really hoping to see more Toren Young in the 2nd half. I felt they did a good job of using IKM in the first half that was fine. But in the 2nd I don't think sprinkling in Sargent like they did the way they did was the way to go. Young with the few touches he had was pounding away and I think if we'd have used Young on any or all of those 3 possessions we had in the 4th q with the 3 pt lead we could have ran more clock off and gotten a score of some kind. I'm pretty confident in that... But we'll never know.

How is this dumb? I'm not making any excuses just stating the obvious. There are a ton of teams out here now that play higher tempo offenses compared to what there were in the mid 2000s right? Maybe you forget how long ago KOK was doing his thing. I think 2011 was his last yr. I doubt if Iowa were to do the same amount of offensive production today as he did back then that we'd be ranked any higher due to what the other programs are doing.
Things were different at the end of his tenure compared to his first 3 or 4 yrs too due to the same thing as long as he'd been doing it too. It's logical and there's no end all be all comparison that's going to show what I think your trying to prove. If you just like KOKs style more and you trust him that's fine and fair.
I'm not even fighting for BF or against KOK here. I'm just stating what I think is true.

I would NEVER have said this team can even COMPETE with Wisconsin until I saw us play them. The first three games were so inconsistent, and Wisconsin coming off a loss, had me very worried.

The last drive before Wisconsin's winning TD is the one that puzzles me. I get that we need to pass more on 1st and 2nd down. But when you have the ball with a lead, with five-plus minutes left, you don't throw until you absolutely HAVE to. You run--theoretically our "bread-and-butter"--then you go PA on 3rd. The clinching 3rd-down conversion in the 2010 Insight Bowl is the absolute blueprint. You run/run clock. On 3rd down, you "look" run, THEN run PA.

Inexplicably, we went away from the run when we needed to stay with it most.

And he won't be. But he IS around to assist.

Yeah the mentor and the student's salary combined is like over 1.2 mil. If our offense ends up ranked in the 100's again how do you justify that much money spent on a shitty training program?

Ah hell it don't matter. It is all preordained.

And KOK wasn't all that great in his first stint. Sure he looked like a genius compared to his replacement but having the 60+ ranked offense is nothing to put on your resume. And calling that Stanzi naked roll out thing-a-ma-jiggy to Wooten's side should forever disqualify him. Hell he should have been run out of town permanently. :p

Look, I'm sorry, but Iowa is a better team than Wisconsin. But due to sheer ineptitude of offensive playcalling, we lost. The two special teams snafus didn't help, but I guarandamntee you that O'Keefe wins that game. I could write a War & Peace lenght treatise on what I saw, but the lack of balls on 2nd and short is really what did Iowa in tonight.
Probably not after a 404 yard performance in a game Iowa moved the ball at will for most of the game.

Yeah I don't think I will be listening to SD. he don't know sh*t!

Which could bode well for Iowa.

When KoK left earlier, Iowa didn't win a bowl game...until....wait for it....he was back on staff last year and guess what...we won a bowl game.

'nuff said
The praises being sung for KOK now is like the Democrats praising McCain after he passed away. It's not how I recall it when he was the OC.

Ya don't know what you missed till it's gone... Hindsight is always what it is. When it comes to KOK to me I think he wasn't as bad as many thought but he dang sure wasn't as good either.... I'm in the middle somewhere

Nepotism. That is your answer.
I wish that's my answer! I love to serve for my country in the military!
