As far as the transfer rumors everyone wants to start...

Unfotunately that's going to be too little too late as we will be down one (should be starting) QB and a handful of skill players (several WRs and a RB).

Let me ask this way. If these kids started or were in the game rotations and saw at least 10 snaps per game (on offense and not counting special teams) would there still be a danger of transfers at the skill positions?

* CJB (starter remainder of season).
* LeShun Daniels.
* Derrick Willies.
* CJ Hilliard.
* Derrick Mitchell.
* Akrum Wadley.
* AJ Jones.

I can't see Hillyer or T. Smith going anywhere. But KMM shouldn't be getting any snaps over Willies and (perhaps) we could use more wide receivers vs TE's. Duzey and #46 line up wide quite often.

Andrew Luck wouldn't cut it. He averages 7.6 yards per completion. Tom Brady averages 6.9 ypc. Philip Rivers has the highest ypc at 8.8 yards. I guess none of these guys "cut it".

Oh, NFL doesn't count? OK. In ALL of the NCAA FBS, there are only 4 QB's that average 9.9 ypc or more: Watson (Clemson), Mariota (Oregon), Nova (Rutgers) and Sims (Alabama). So the rest of the FBS QBs don't "cut it".

other than the 4th qtr when MD was essentially letting us throw the ball, JR couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. JR's stats were padded in that 4th qtr because MD was in prevent. Please don't try and argue that JR had a good statistical game. He wasn't even close to having one.

CJ said it himself, "he chose Iowa, great school, great conference, great coaches and he intends to be the starter." In a years time, he's gone from being an athlete with the tools to a team leader & gifted QB. He's climbing Jake's back and it won't be long before he steps right past him. Pretty easy to see the potential and confidence. Great athletes thrive on competition and work harder. He's getting better everyday. It's easy to be patient when you know you will be able to grasp the reward.

Every point you made is accurate. What you omitted is the headcoach who actually gets to make the decision. He has shown he has no intention of giving CJ a fair shot. When someone lies to you, it is not entitlement to not want to work with that person.

My "gut" feeling is that this was jakes last chance. KF pulled a 2008 Pitt decision and after the bye CJ is the starting QB.

I kinda got that feeling during the game, but not sure if it will happen. It would have been a perfect time to implement the "hot hand' strategy that Kirk & GD said they were going to use.

BOP, it's really pretty obvious that CJ has already passed JR and needs to be the starter. But, KF is going to do what he wants and that isn't always the correct decision. And, if I was CJ I would know that I have already out performed JR and "what the hell else do I have to do?"

From what I've seen, CJ should have been the starter, game 1.

I don't see CJB leaving... He's pot committed now. I could have seen him going home to TN at say the end of spring ball if he felt like he was getting a raw deal or just plain wanted to play. Tennessees Qb situation isn't very good to say the least and him going home with the stud WRs they have would make too much sense. But since he didn't pull that trigger before this year started I don't see him doing it. He's in the same situation if he stays or goes pretty much playing time wise now. With the upside of just one snap away from being the man at any point this year or next.

That said I worry about WRs possibly leaving namely Willies.. If I'm a WR why would you come here or stay? They didn't target one in the first half of that game. Didn't even consider throwing the ball 15 yards down field or more till they were down 3 scores late. Smith going into his senior year next year if nothing changes will have wasted a couple years where he could have made a heck of a name for himself. He's got NFL athleticism and size for a receiver. Since he's only got 1 year to play I doubt he leaves but the sky is the limit for Willies. Will he get used even a fraction of what he should going forward?

I could see him looking at things and saying this style of offense and qb just won't cut it. Now that said he could be just coming into his own his JR year when Beathard is a SR and maybe that could be a heck of a pairing. Assuming Davis isn't calling the shots then.

I look at a team like MD and they have a guy like McCardell as their WR coach. They have a stud of a receiver in Diggs and they found all kinds of ways to use him with qbs that nobody is going to argue are going to see an NFL training camp... Why is it that with receivers like Smith Powell and Willies that we are so stubborn with the predictable dink and dunk offense that defenses can just squat on. I won't complain too much about using our TEs as much as they have that's fine to an extent. But in todays college football you have to stretch the field too if for no other reason then to get the safetys out of the box and just sitting on predictable routes. It's one thing to not complete a deep ball all day but they never even attempted one!!!

Iowa had 32 completions in this game with an avg of 9.9 yards per..... That just don't cut it..

MM and Smith average 7 YPC between them, say old crap with JR

Beathard isn't going to transfer; since he has already redshirted one year he has two left after this season. If he were to transfer he would have to sit out one year then have only one year of eligibility left to try and earn a starting job elsewhere. Worst case scenario if he stays at Iowa, he rides the bench the rest of this year and next and gets one year as a starter as a 5th year senior. So if he transfers the most he gets is one year as a starter; he's basically guaranteed that at Iowa with the chance to displace Rudock and start for two years and possibly part of this season as well. I don't think Kirk will bench Rudock this year because...well because he's Kirk and wouldn't know a good QB if he saw one. But staying at Iowa is still the better option for Beathard at this point.

Don't know what you have heard regarding WRs but have heard some noise that at least 2 talented WRs have already begun to 'look around.'

Willies should be playing NOW! I would have to think he is one who may leave after this year from what i have seen. This kid is 6'4" and can actually catch the ball! We have weapons on offense, but refuse to use them. It makes no sense to me, unless there are other issues behind the scenes that we don't know about. Smith and Willies should be the 2 starting WR's from what i have seen. And that is with about 3 catches by Willies! If you think martin-manley,vandenburg,hillyer are better receivers , i have some oceanfront property in Arizona.

AJ Jones transferred last spring....I liked what I saw from him in the Spring Game, but he bailed after that. Reggie Harris is the other redshirt frosh WR who could be on this list. I am counting on all of those guys to be our next gen of skill players...hope we do not lose any.

Thanks, JH. I was going off of the spring roster. But yeah, that group has some very good speed and is an upgrade to our typical.
