As far as the transfer rumors everyone wants to start...

I don't see CJB leaving... He's pot committed now. I could have seen him going home to TN at say the end of spring ball if he felt like he was getting a raw deal or just plain wanted to play. Tennessees Qb situation isn't very good to say the least and him going home with the stud WRs they have would make too much sense. But since he didn't pull that trigger before this year started I don't see him doing it. He's in the same situation if he stays or goes pretty much playing time wise now. With the upside of just one snap away from being the man at any point this year or next.

That said I worry about WRs possibly leaving namely Willies.. If I'm a WR why would you come here or stay? They didn't target one in the first half of that game. Didn't even consider throwing the ball 15 yards down field or more till they were down 3 scores late. Smith going into his senior year next year if nothing changes will have wasted a couple years where he could have made a heck of a name for himself. He's got NFL athleticism and size for a receiver. Since he's only got 1 year to play I doubt he leaves but the sky is the limit for Willies. Will he get used even a fraction of what he should going forward?

I could see him looking at things and saying this style of offense and qb just won't cut it. Now that said he could be just coming into his own his JR year when Beathard is a SR and maybe that could be a heck of a pairing. Assuming Davis isn't calling the shots then.

I look at a team like MD and they have a guy like McCardell as their WR coach. They have a stud of a receiver in Diggs and they found all kinds of ways to use him with qbs that nobody is going to argue are going to see an NFL training camp... Why is it that with receivers like Smith Powell and Willies that we are so stubborn with the predictable dink and dunk offense that defenses can just squat on. I won't complain too much about using our TEs as much as they have that's fine to an extent. But in todays college football you have to stretch the field too if for no other reason then to get the safetys out of the box and just sitting on predictable routes. It's one thing to not complete a deep ball all day but they never even attempted one!!!

Iowa had 32 completions in this game with an avg of 9.9 yards per..... That just don't cut it..

It doesn't matter. He should be starting ASAP. He's our only chance to be anything other than mediocre. We need to start getting him game experience.

I told Jon who my sources were last week.. Here's what I was told..

"CJB was going to transfer and was told he would compete for the job, and JR would be on a short leash"

i cant speak on anything in regards to THIS year, but you can't think he really wants to stay after being lied to. Fact is, he's NOT getting a shot to compete here, and that's unfair to him and his commitment to stay after being told that.

That's exactly what I heard as well.

Don't know who your source(s) is/are, but it almost doesn't matter. If I was CJ, I'd be gone after this season, unless I became the starter in the next game, because I'd know I'm the better QB and I wouldn't look over my shoulder at JR. I might take a peak for Tyler Weigers next season, but only a peak. But not JR.

Edit: KF needs to nip this and let CJ start and then change the offense to a downfield pressing offense. My goodness, we've got so much talent at wideout. USE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Were you told that sometime this off season before this season started then? Between spring ball and fall practice? It makes sense that the staff would tell him whatever he wanted to hear to try and keep him because once the Texas kid left after spring ball that left Iowa down to just those two plus the Detroit Weigers kid coming in.

I would sure like to think after this game that "short leash" will be given a hard tug.

as did I, as recently as last week outside Kinnick from a current player's Dad. There will be transfers. And it won't be hard to understand why.

Something is very wrong with the way you run your team, when your 'system" routinely makes it difficult for talented players to get on the field as early as possible...AND it fails to yield a decent offense. I'd suggest that's also loosely connected to why many of the 4-5*s we get have failed to blossom. KFz is a micro-manager.

This, along with so many other things always comes back to what will be KFz's ultimate legacy:

Playing not to lose and living in fear of mistakes... rather than playing to win and placing an emphasis on play-making.

We're 7 games into the season. The leash, by definition, has not been short. The change should have come in the ISU game...and Greg Davis should have been part of it.

I wanted Greg Davis let go after his 1st season when I fully think he ruined Vandenberg with a passing plan that didn't fit him.

With that being said, I agree after the Iowa State game something should have been done QB-wise. That loss was just digesting on many levels and the defense wasn't to blame for it.

I was told during the season last year actually. I was in class with a kid on the team. Then I made a thread that someone would leave and someone would stay. Scherff was the one staying, Beathard was the one leaving. He told the kid he was leaving. After the regular season was over (semester ends in Dec) I was told he was talked into staying, and told he would get game time in our bowl game.

for what it's worth, I could come here every week and update you with Rudock's injury status (during the game, I'd NEVER potentially tip off another team to our Hawks) as I'm very closely connected to him as well.

Like he was injured going INTO the Pitt game. :)

He was talked into staying shortly after the bowl game from what I heard.

I don't think Jake has been healthy since the Iowa State game to be honest. He just doesn't run the same now.

I'm glad others are hearing this was the case outside of my words.. I was banned and given a pretty hard time when I brought that here... Then Scherff announced he was coming back lol

Don't know what you have heard regarding WRs but have heard some noise that at least 2 talented WRs have already begun to 'look around.'

Morehouse tweeted that he "heard/thinks" GD is gone after this season (retiring). But, I would say this. CJ makes GD's offense look good. It isn't so much the pass patterns as it is who the players are trying to execute it. I now fear BF becoming the OC. It simply solidifies the dink and dunk offense.

I don't have class with any players this semester, and the one I had last year was in my group, and we basically just screwed off and got our easy grade.. Talked a lot about football.

like I said, I could have someone ask Rudock what he's heard.. So if I do come back with info, it's really hearsay as "she said he said..." Not directly from him so.. I'd recommend that with salt grains.

Unfotunately that's going to be too little too late as we will be down one (should be starting) QB and a handful of skill players (several WRs and a RB).

Interesting... If we all think the message boards are blowing up today wait till (if) Beathard transfers and it comes out he's ****** he was mislead at the least or out right lied to at worst...

I just think that the combo of Rudock and Davis are just a terrible match for this team. If Iowas running game is moving the ball and play action is working then Rudock is a great game manager. But that just isn't going to be the case game in and game out. When the other team is sitting on your short routes and the safeties are just reading the qbs eyes and flying down hill against the run it just puts your O in a terrible spot. You have to be able to go deep. And not even attempting one is pathetic. Weather there was a play or two called going deep and Rudock decided not to we probably won't find that out. I bet that stays hush hush as to not stir the pot if Rudock didn't take shots when he should have. But it's irrelevant with the result being what it is.

The only thing that amazes me more than KFz's blindness...is the denial so many fans are in. An absolute refusal to consider the validity of criticisms directed toward Ferentz...no matter how obvious they are.

Wow. Just wow. After I read this, I thought "What would 'cut it' in Hawkfnntn's world?"

Andrew Luck wouldn't cut it. He averages 7.6 yards per completion. Tom Brady averages 6.9 ypc. Philip Rivers has the highest ypc at 8.8 yards. I guess none of these guys "cut it".

Oh, NFL doesn't count? OK. In ALL of the NCAA FBS, there are only 4 QB's that average 9.9 ypc or more: Watson (Clemson), Mariota (Oregon), Nova (Rutgers) and Sims (Alabama). So the rest of the FBS QBs don't "cut it".

If Beathard transfers he will probably end up being a first round draft choice just so hawk fans can feel a good solid kick to the nuts.
