Arizona's monster stats

We clearly could have hung 50-60 points on both EIU (D2) and ISU (D1). We could have been at least 105-6 in the point spread. Arizona played two D2 teams and rarely took there foot off the gas. This will be a good game.

Stoops and AZ played two D2 teams. He didn't let up because he knows exactly who and what is coming to town next week. He knows that they haven't had the competition necessary to get ready for Iowa so I think he played these last two games like he would scrimmages and got as many repetitions as possible. He knows Iowa is an entirely different animal--a cave bear compared to a rabbit and he KNOWS they will be in a dogfight like some of his players have never seen. Some of the AZ players know how tough Iowa will be and they know what experience on both sides of the ball Iowa has coming back. Their fans might think that the wildcats are going to roll but the players and coaches know they are going to have to strap that helmet on a couple of notches tighter because this is going to be a full 4-quarter physical football game on both sides of the ball and they know that Iowa is not going to let up and will come at them full force for the entire game and they had better be ready or they will get their heads handed to them. Iowa on the other hand knows pretty much what to expect on the road...It has been a long long time since I have seen an Iowa team play this well THIS early and with this kind of confidence! Iowa will be a tough team to beat, especially for a team who has had no competition yet...

The only thing I'm really concerned about is the heat. Their guys accustomed to it, "our" guys are not. That being said, in an environment that dry, once the sun goes down the temperatures usually come down pretty quick. It could be 95 when the game starts and in the low 80's at games end. Not really worried about the crowd either; Arizona's stadium is barely bigger than Jack Trice, and it sounds like at 10,000 Iowa fans will be in the house. Their crowd really shouldn't be an issue, as Iowa has gone into places far more hostile and walked out victorious.

Really, if Iowa plays their game, it should be a fairly comfortable win.

I'll be there screaming for the hawks. It's going to be about 99 each day this week, with a low just above 70. I'm sure it will be plenty warm.

Iowa needs to play consistently and not give up big plays or turnovers. I expect a tough game, but they'll be fine if they play like they did Saturday.

Just saw an Arizona fan say there won't be more than 5,000 to 7,000 Iowa fans in the seats. I don't think he knows how well Iowa fans support the team and travel long distances. I myself am traveling 2,000 miles to see Iowa win it, 23-17.

I predict no fewer than 20,000 bumble-bees in the stands and that they will generate more energy than the Cats fans.

I think it's obvious that Arizona hasn't played anyone. Still, all they could do is take care of business. Which they did.

Arizona was one of the losses I predicted. However, I feel much better about this game than I had before the season started. But it's still going to be a tough game.

I don't understand the argument that Iowa will have trouble with the heat. It was in the 90's and really humid during one of the weeks of fall camp for the Hawks this season. How is that not comparable to what they will face in AZ.

Also....the sun still goes down at night in Arizona, right? I'm not thinking that the temp will play much of a factor.

I do not see them throwing the ball like that against us. I think we get a lot of pressure. D-line has been playing straight up the last two weeks. They do not have a lot on video to prepare for us defensively. We will throw in a few wrinkles to get pressure if we need too. They will move the ball on us. But in the end we bend and do not break. Offensively, I am going to make a prediction that Jewell will be let loose to the outside. I think we ran him inside against ISU intentionally. I do not think they will be prepared for how quickly he can get the corner. He will get the corner a couple times in the game for big gains, this being the difference in a close hawkeye victory.

Exactly for 11 am kickoffs on the field it is close to 95 with the humidity so i don't see why it would be a huge factor for the team.

No worries about heat. At the game last night it was mid 70's by kickoff at 7:00 pm with a cool breeze, perfect football conditions.

And no cibula I am not an undercover cat. I am a recent Iowa Grad, but I don't bleed black and gold...real Hawks are immortal.

Long range forecast for Tucson for Saturday, Sept 18.

Crystal clear
95 degrees for the high
67 degrees for the low

It will probably be in the low 90's at kick off, low 80's at game's end

Humidity will be about 15%.

Coach Ferentz indicated Iowa moved there evening practices to a later start time during the practices leading up to the start of the season. I think he may be planning practices this week to begin at a later hour than normal.
