Are we the third best team in Iowa?

You got a link to the guy who created it saying it wasn't a good measure at all?

Hollinger freely admits that two of the defensive statistics it incorporates—blocks and steals (which was not tracked as an official stat until 1973)—can produce a distorted picture of a player's value and that PER is not a reliable measure of a player's defensive acumen.

That doesn't sound like him saying it wasn't a good measure at all of defensive ability

I think it's pretty obvious by watching that Ellingson, Bohannon and Cook are our 3 worst defenders. Uhl has his moments too

When someone says that their own metric isn't a "reliable" measure it means they know it is flawed.

The problem with defensive metrics is it can't differentiate between a guy who gives up a bucket because he has to sag and help another player on D while his man then was open and hit a shot, and one who gets burned. It just is never going to be a good metric. Some teams like to double team, leaving a man open. Iowa plays a lot of zone, how does that factor in?

I know it is flawed, he knows it is flawed, you wanna take it as gospel to run a troll.

Hey Dean how do you think Bohannon did on defense last night? Their PG only had 24 last night

Yeah, but how efficient was he? Their point guard also accounted for half of their points...out of necessity. I'll take that every single game we win by 32 points.

He was pretty efficient. 100% from the line, 40% from 3 and 44% from the floor. 2 assists 1 TO

He's shooting 80% from 3 in those games, Bohannon is shooting 30% from the floor in those games

For an advanced statistic guy your lack of statistical knowledge is astounding. It may be worse than your basketball knowledge.

Since you never responded I'll ask you this one again. Why would it matter where Jordan ranked among our players? I wish Jordan was our worst player because we had guys better than him.

He gets more credit on here than Ellingson and Baer put together and everyone is out to prove me wrong like he's some player he's not

Actually most people have a problem with the fact you called Jordan a bust or miss just like you did with Moss. Yet you recently contradicted that by saying you think he will be good in the future.

Care to respond to anything in my post? I think Baer gets a good amount of praise around here and deservingly so. People are coming around to Ellingson, but I don't recall you ever saying anything good about him until maybe the last few pages of this thread to try and argue he's better than Bohannon.

I will agree that to a certain extent people are not acknowledging some of the issues that Bohannon has had and will continue to have. He's had a really tough time with ball pressure, even last night.

Again please respond to what I said in my previous post.

I won't acknowledge any of Jordan's flaws because of 56, not gonna make running his troll easy for him. Maybe I'll relent on that as 56 said the thinks Jordan will be good.

The beauty of a message board is you can share your opinions and they don't have to be the same as everyone else. I regret saying Moss was a miss, I didn't know why he would redshirt when there was minutes for him and I said that after he played a combined 4 minutes against Seton Hall and Memphis. Bohannon was a fallback recruit, we all know that, I wasn't excited about it like a lot of people. The difference is some people talked themselves into thinking he's the player we need while I didn't. We can have civil conversations without attacking each other

Not when you are a poor defender and shoot 32% from the floor. The worst part is I know you know advanced statistics paint a better picture than PPG and APG but you're just trying to argue with me

You are arguing with literally everyone in this thread. Reminds me of another poster, only you use repetition, less "lol's", and are not as inflammatory.

Bohannon has been decent, with flashes of good, with signs of being very good, and of course making frosh errors. To say he's been below avg overall is silly and short sighted.

The entire JBO vs. Mike G comparison is irrelevant, their different players with different strengths, that play on very different team types.

But carry on, this thread may last until JBO graduates so we'll have a better sample size.

I don't know if you're an actual Hawk fan (if you are your'reservation an odd one), if you're not, it's really sad. I don't care really either way, but attrition is a strange way to troll.

I'm sorry I'm not sure what question I'm supposed to respond to. I'll gladly answer it. And yes I totally agree with you some people are ignoring some of the issues Bohannon has and is going to have to deal with and it will probably only get harder for him in Big Ten play

He's been better offensively as a starter, he still hasn't had a good season overall. Plus I think we can all agree he's probably going to hit the freshman wall at some point in conference play and is going to be a liability on defense most games. Do me a favor and rank our players 1 to 10 and let me know where he falls

Stop saying we can all agree when there is 20 pages of NOONE agreeing with you.

The question is why does it matter where Bohannon ranks on our team? It would be awesome if he was our worst player because we had a bunch of guys better than him. In essence, it's possible for a team to have several good players.

Oh sorry I missed that. The reason I ranked them like that is because I have people pretending like Bohannon is a stud (direct quote) and is one of the best players on the team. He's a role player because asking to play a bigger role than he should out of necessity in my opinion.
