Yeah the guy who created it said it wasn't a good measure at all of defensive ability. So yeah, I'd call that a "made up stat".
You got a link to the guy who created it saying it wasn't a good measure at all?

Hollinger freely admits that two of the defensive statistics it incorporates—blocks and steals (which was not tracked as an official stat until 1973)—can produce a distorted picture of a player's value and that PER is not a reliable measure of a player's defensive acumen.
That doesn't sound like him saying it wasn't a good measure at all of defensive ability
Hey Dean how do you think Bohannon did on defense last night? Their PG only had 24 last night
Yeah, but how efficient was he? Their point guard also accounted for half of their points...out of necessity. I'll take that every single game we win by 32 points.
He's shooting 80% from 3 in those games, Bohannon is shooting 30% from the floor in those games
For an advanced statistic guy your lack of statistical knowledge is astounding. It may be worse than your basketball knowledge.
Since you never responded I'll ask you this one again. Why would it matter where Jordan ranked among our players? I wish Jordan was our worst player because we had guys better than him.
He gets more credit on here than Ellingson and Baer put together and everyone is out to prove me wrong like he's some player he's not

Care to respond to anything in my post? I think Baer gets a good amount of praise around here and deservingly so. People are coming around to Ellingson, but I don't recall you ever saying anything good about him until maybe the last few pages of this thread to try and argue he's better than Bohannon.
I will agree that to a certain extent people are not acknowledging some of the issues that Bohannon has had and will continue to have. He's had a really tough time with ball pressure, even last night.
Again please respond to what I said in my previous post.
Actually most people have a problem with the fact you called Jordan a bust or miss just like you did with Moss. Yet you recently contradicted that by saying you think he will be good in the future.
Not when you are a poor defender and shoot 32% from the floor. The worst part is I know you know advanced statistics paint a better picture than PPG and APG but you're just trying to argue with me

He's been better offensively as a starter, he still hasn't had a good season overall. Plus I think we can all agree he's probably going to hit the freshman wall at some point in conference play and is going to be a liability on defense most games. Do me a favor and rank our players 1 to 10 and let me know where he falls
I'm sorry I'm not sure what question I'm supposed to respond to. I'll gladly answer it. And yes I totally agree with you some people are ignoring some of the issues Bohannon has and is going to have to deal with and it will probably only get harder for him in Big Ten play
Stop saying we can all agree when there is 20 pages of NOONE agreeing with you.
The question is why does it matter where Bohannon ranks on our team? It would be awesome if he was our worst player because we had a bunch of guys better than him. In essence, it's possible for a team to have several good players.
I've never thought Ellingson was good because he hasn't been but he's playing really well this year.
