Home just like in 21 but I am guessing it 80/20 in favor of UM.
In my experience at Kinnick, Michigan fans are the most well-traveled visitors team at Iowa games, so it would stand to reason they'd have the most fans at a CCG. I'm sure part of it is their popularity, and part of it is that there seem to be way more rich pricks in their ranks which makes the travel more feasible for them as a whole.I heard this skewed attendance number as well. I guess it was like that two yrs ago as well. It kind of surprises me and makes me wonder as I would think Iowa fans would travel for the BIG c-ship game. Do Iowa fans hold out to spend $$$$ on a bowl trip instead to get away in winter?
But you still would think that each team is allotted the same number of tickets and one would think Iowa fans would gobble up at least their share of what is allotted to them. I mean that's all we hear when bowl season comes is how well Iowa fans travel and they go in droves. I realize number-wise Michigan fans outnumber but there are still enough rabid Iowa fans to fill half a stadium. It's all we hear is why Iowa travels so well and how bowl committees want Iowa for that reason. In my experience at Kinnick, Michigan fans are the most well-traveled visitors team at Iowa games, so it would stand to reason they'd have the most fans at a CCG. Indy is physically closer to them, and they have a WAY larger fan base than the Hawks. There are huge numbers of UM football fans in every state.
Interesting.I was curious so I checked ticket prices today on Stubhub. $40 behind the end zone. On the 50-yard line 2nd section up, $400 on the Iowa side and $600 on the Michigan side.
Right but they don't allot the entire stadium to both teams. There are lots of public sale tickets that I'm sure get bought way more by Michigan fans than Iowa. But you still would think that each team is allotted the same number of tickets and one would think Iowa fans would gobble up at least their share of what is allotted to them. Doesn't make sense to me I guess.
Well, this was my thinking of why this is the case with the BIG CCG.Right but they don't allot the entire stadium to both teams. There are lots of public sale tickets that I'm sure get bought way more by Michigan fans than Iowa.
I also know a whole bunch of Iowa fans in my circle who normally go to bowl games but said no way in hell to the CCG. Think about it...Iowa will in all likelihood get stomped by Michigan. If you were going to go with your spouse as part of a group or even just the two of you, that's two plane tickets, a rental car, probably a two-night minimum at a $300+/night motel, food, game tickets, bar expense...you could spend $2-3K EASY on two people just to go watch 'em get shithoused by Michigan and have to sit amongst their dickhead fans all night. No way Jose.
Plus, you mentioned the bowl game...how many Iowa fans are going to want to spend the time and money doing both when there's a 99% chance we get curb stomped again like 2021? I know I'd never do both, and given the chance between the poop show that's likely going to happen on Saturday and a trip to say, the Citrus Bowl against a beatable opponent...I'm going to the bowl game, man.
Iowa fans I think have by and large resigned themselves to the fact that this is a token exhibition game that we aren't going to win anyway. That makes the bowl more appealing IMO. we have a good shot at the Citrus Bowl which is winnable and in a warm destination that can also serve as a vacation.I got tickets in the upper bowl on the 35 yard line for a little over a hundred bucks plus all the fees. I am sure the Michigan fans will outnumber the Hawk fans, but not by that much. Iowa fans travel, as we showed at Wrigley. That said, a lot of my buddies who considered going basically said they could not bear to watch the carnage in person. I suspect that will certainly suppress Iowa's numbers. Iowa is playing for a better bowl and to not get killed. Michigan is playing to get into the playoffs. Fan enthusiasm has a big role in who shows up.
My son goes to Indiana, so I am meeting him for the game. Otherwise, I would not be going. I went in 2015 and it was both amazing and heart-wrenching. This won't be that.Iowa fans I think have by and large resigned themselves to the fact that this is a token exhibition game that we aren't going to win anyway. Not a lot of reason to pick the CCG over the bowl game unless you plan on both.
New Year in a sunny warm Florida destination is a much bigger seller than an early dark and dreary December in a game Iowa is likely to lose. It seems like a no brainer unless someone has money for both.Right but they don't allot the entire stadium to both teams. I don't have money for either so it's an easy decision for me.New Year in a sunny warm Florida destination is a much bigger seller than an early dark and dreary December in a game Iowa is likely to lose. It seems like a no brainer unless someone has money for both.
It's not every year you get to the B1G champ game. Bowl games are a dime a dozen.Iowa fans I think have by and large resigned themselves to the fact that this is a token exhibition game that we aren't going to win anyway. Yeah but the Citrus Bowl is literally in the middle of a ghetto. Not sure if it's been renovated but it was a dump when I saw iowa beat LSU and Saban. My son goes to Indiana, so I am meeting him for the game. Otherwise, I would not be going. I went in 2015 and it was both amazing and heart-wrenching. This won't be that.
Orlando is not a bad place to be in January, I agree.
Nobody cares where the stadium is. People go to bowls for the warm weather, the night life, and the surrounding area. Dead center of Orlando is an hour away from Daytona and only two hours from Palm Beach. If you're a complete f*cking idiot, Sea World, Disney World, Universal Studios, etc. are all minutes away, there's more golf there than any place on Earth....yadda yadda yadda.Yeah but the Citrus Bowl is literally in the middle of a ghetto.
