Anything Can Happen in the Iowa-ISU Game

Several painful moments come to mind:

1. In 1998 in Kinnick, Iowa was coming off of a bowl season and Iowa State was a 17 point underdog. The Clones just ripped us, 27-9. It was the beginning of the end for Hayden.

2. In 2005 we were coming off of one of the greatest seasons in Iowa history, had Drew Tate at QB and Greenway at LB, and I believe we were rated #9 in the country. Clones annihilated us, 23-3. Unbelievable.

3. In 1981 we had just defeated #6 Nebraska 10-7. The Clones smoked us in Ames, 24-13.

4. In 2002, we are leading 24-7 at the half. 24-7! And we had a great team. Somehow, someway, ISU wins 35-31, to spoil an undefeated season. One of the most disappointing losses in Iowa history, IMO.

The point here is that anything can happen in this game - throw out the record books and ignore the posted spread. Anything can happen, and that is particularly true in Ames, where if ISU gets off to a good start, the snowball starts to roll. I'm really nervous about this game.....

I'll pick ISU in a shocker, 14-10
 


I'm fairly confident the Hawks will win, but I agree that anything can happen. Which makes me snicker at the folks who think a -7 line is money in the bank. We'll see. I'll be happy with a W.
 


Usually I'm nervous as hell about this game every year but not this one. For some reason I just feel we're way better than what the media proclaims us to be. Just a gut feeling. :p
 


In recent memory, with the exception of KF's early years when we were still just bad, most of the games we have lost to ISU have been because we have been horrible in the turnover department. If we win the turnover battle, we'll win. In other words, just don't beat ourselves.

1) I wouldn't say ISU "annihilated" Iowa in 05, sure it looks like it but in that game Iowa threw a pick 6 and ISU scored their last TD with about 3 minutes left in the game when it was already over. It was 16-3 with about 4 minutes to go, but without Manson being stupid and throwing that pick 6 in the first half it could have been a 9-3 game with 4 minutes to go.

2) If Iowa only scores 10 then they don't deserve to win anyway.
 


i say hawks 40-19, which would also be the all-time record versus state after the win, seems like as good a prediction as any
 




Man, that 02 game was just brutal. I remember telling my ISU buddies at halftime that I thought was going to lose. They did. It sucked.
 




Let us not forget 2007, Jake Christensen, who along with Brad Banks is the only Iowa QB to beat Northwestern in recent memory, put together a helluva game only to stand by helplessly on the sidelines while Norm Parker's defense delivered its patented bend and then fold gameplan, handing the Clowns yet another victory in a game in which the offense held a lead late in the 4th quarter. How long has it been bince Iowa beat Northwestern and Iowa State in the same season? We used to just write in Ws for both of those games, what the heck happened?

and if last year you said auburns JC transfer QB would win the heisman and lead them to an undefeated national title you would have been called a fool also

point is you just never know for sure

The smart guess on national title is just picking any SEC team that looks halfway decent. If they get to week 7 undefeated, the SEC refs will go WWF style and do everything in their power to get them into the title game. See, e.g., Alabama, Florida and Auburn. I think they have some sort of rotating pact whereby they have decided everyone from the SEC (other than Vandy) will get a title, you take your lumps for a few years, but if you are a good soldier, you will get your title.

Are you just taking a contrarian viewpoint here? Gut feeling? What? You are contradicting yourself in this post, are we suppose throw out everything except ISU victories.
