Anyone in the room....

Any info for us out of towners? How're the new guys looking? St. John at 157 or 165? Who is gonna claim 141? Anything?

Not a whole lot going on in the room right now. All of the incoming freshman have been in town at some point this summer. Nick Moore will be competing at Fargo tomorrow. McD will be at 125 and Moore looks to be the front runner for 133. The goal is always to put out the best team, but without sacrificing individual titles and I think McD would have trouble having the same success at 133. Mark Ballweg will probably claim 141. Marion is still around, but will likely never wrestle again for the Hawks. On the McCauley front things are looking really good for Iowa, there have been a couple of sightings of him in IC this offseason.

Ramos... do you see him fighting for the 133 slot then?

Thanks for the info USA! I agree about McD staying at 125. I think he has more success at 125 rather than 133 and it makes it much nicer to start the dual with him there. Good to hear about the McCauley sightings. That's encouraging. Guess they are'nt looking to bring in many recruits this year after last years haul, but what they bring in should be top notch. Any idea how 157-165 looks to shake out?

Forgot to mention St. John, he wants 165, but it's going to depend on how big he gets this summer. If St. John goes 165 then we will see Ballweg at 157, if St. John goes 157 then we will see a rerun with Janssen and Kerr at 165. As much hype as Ramos has gotten on these boards he still is not a better option than Moore at 133. Moore is still working on being 100% and he was not quite there during the FILA Junior National Championships. Ramos has grown a bit and he may have to battle it out at 133 because I'm not sure he is a career 125lber.

Thanks again USA! Good info. I'm curious what St. John's walking around weight is. I thought he looked more like 157 would be better for him. Then of course, I'm just another internet goof-ball with an opinion, and no idea what these guys go thru to make their weight or how strong-weak they may feel as they cut down.

I would be surprised to see St. John, jansen and Kerr all at 165 while Ballweg takes the 157 spot. It's always sounded like St. John would go to 165, so i'd be shocked if the other two went up when they could be the man at 157.

USAFhawk is spot on with everything he said as usual. It will be interesting to see if Jannsen or Kerr would change there mind if St John does go 165 but that would be a REALLY tough cut for either for another year. I do think that we'll see McD, Moore, then Ballweg at 125-141. I'm almost more curious to see how the top 3 weights shake out with Gambrall, L Lofthouse, and Ambrose all fighting it out for 2 spots and Johnson and Rasing battling it out at HWT. I believe that Rasing will win the spot but you never know. Gambrall seems to have grown a little over the offseason so far which would be huge.

I realize that Jansen/Kerr/DSJ all would like to go up to 165, I just would be surprised if they all did and 2 ended up on the bench as oppposed to being in the line up, but i guess time will tell. no matter what happens with the weights its going to be an interesting year in Iowa City

I know E Lofthouse wrestled 165 with 24 hour weigh-ins, but is he pretty much set at 174 to be our guy in the lineup?

Not that I'm a Ballweg hater but having both Matt and Mark in the lineup would be tough to watch. Matt struggled a lot at 157 two years ago and was not getting it done last year either. I have to think someone would cut or considering the depth coming in we would burn the shirt on Kelly, Moore or Baldo if they show to be a much better option for 157. Mark was ok at 133 last year but did not wow me. I think he has a rough time at 141 as like Matt he seems to have slow feet and they have trouble getting in and finishing on people. They seem to gas out a lot as well.

Then don't watch. No one cares if you watch or not. That comment shows you are a "hater" to some degree.

They aren't burning a redshirt on anyone unless they literally have no other options at that weight. Everyone will redshirt.
