Anyone gonna watch the goofers tonight?

I just checked the rule book (yes, I have a PDF copy of the 2012 rulebook on my computer), and the refs definitely got that call right, even though it's a bad rule.

ARTICLE 3. When a scrimmage kick that has crossed the neutral zone touches a player of the receiving team who is inbounds, any player may catch or recover the ball (Rule 6-3-1-b) (Exceptions: Rules 6-3-4 and 6-5-1-b).

What this means is that when a punt is muffed, it isn't a fumble; it merely makes it so that both teams are eligible to recover the punt. In light of it not being a fumble, the ball going into the end zone is automatically a touchback and can't be recovered by either team.

Iowa City will burn.

Then you have my permission to die.

If we lose to Minnesota this year...

Up until the INT, Minny's first drive had me worried about playing them. After the INT, I went to bed. When I read the score this morning, saw that it took 3 OT for them to score 30 points, it brought back memories of Iowa-2007.

I may be a little antsy about the Hawks this year, but if we lose to Minnesota...
