Anyone else heading to the Well today to watch Woodrow?

Woodbury is the kind of kid who will look better in college. He's not a great athlete and that generally seperates guys in HS. He can be doubled down on quite easy. More spacing in college and hard to double him with Gessell out top. I think he will be a good player for us despite his lack of production in HS games at times

It's also harder for big guys to stand out since a lot of their production is related to the quality of their guards. If you don't have guys who can make good entry passes into you, it's going to be hard to produce much. Plus unless a Marcus Paige, Woodbury can't have the ball in his hands every possession.

Rafe LaFrentz never won a state championship.....

USA Today HS All American First Team. and McDonald's All American.....

Remember a picture of Raef in the DMR, tournament game, he was surrounded by four/five opponents who were about one foot shorter than him. His team lost.....

Took the afternoon off from work to go catch Woodbury in action. My two cents: I won't base his next four years on what I saw today. I was expecting to see more intensity from Adam. Honestly, I thought he didn't look too into it (until about the last five minutes of the game). In my mind, I was just expecting to see this floor leader -- someone who commanded the court and his team. He definitely has potential and as someone else mentioned, I think Adam will make a good college player when surrounded by guards that can get him the ball. Adam was pretty much surrounded by two/three guys all afternoon. SC East has a nice supporting cast but nobody who really could drive and dish.

Adam's upper body strength needs to improve. He was getting moved around by guys much smaller than him. Adam has a nice touch on the ball. His 12 points were pretty much all layups. He is not a dominate rebounder by any means. It was more a case of him being 7'0 tall and simply extending his hands over everyone else.

But the bottom line is you see the potential. The weight will come; the conditioning will improve; the hustle will get better. You know Coach Williams and Coach Fran are confident Adam will have a good college career. After all, you can't coach 7'0 ...

I would give today's outing a "C+" ... I like the future of Iowa basketball. I couldn't help but smile when I think of Adam in the mix with his future teammates; and smile when I think about how Fran will develop the skill set Adam obviously has ... Today's game was so-so ... but you see the potential ...

I think we saw 2 different games. Getting moved around by smaller guys? Not intense or into it? I didn't see that at all.

Sorry EddyP, but gotta go DesMoinesHawk on this. First three quarters where.. meh. He did step it up in the 4th a bit, but can't really get a read on one game. I do wonder if he is foul prone... had two really quick ones at one point and finished with four.
He is a project that I think will pan out pretty darn good after Fran gets ahold of him.:)

Sure he is foul prone but that only backs up my point that he is aggressive, intense, and into the game. As a comparison Abrahamson picked up his first foul in the 4th quarter. He stepped it up later in the game because the other players for East forced Valley to get out of their junk defense. He works hard to get the ball and wants it. I also saw leadership out there(calling players in for a huddle, trying to get them pumped up, etc.) Does he have a lot of work to do? Sure, and he will.

Saw the Ankeny game too and they have a pretty good team. Will probably beat East but the match up of Woody against their 6' 9" kid should be interesting. Nice sportsmanship from Ankeny's students chanting "how'd you get here?" clap,clap..clap,clap,clap when they were up by 25.

Actually Ankeny's stud, Ted Friedman, is getting looks from Drake and Creighton. Ran into both Greg McDermott and Mark Phelps before game. Were scouting him and probably some others.

Who is the favorite?

Ankeny went down? West is still alive.

I know west beat linn mar by about 25+ at Linn Mar earlier this year. Sounds like Paige is rolling though.

Coach Bergman is probably the best coach in the State of Iowa.

A good story previewing IC West and Linn Mar. It shows how much opposing players really do know each other.

Lassen faces West again - 3 months later

Very good article. Glad to see that Lassen is not only healthy but is back on the court playing again.

Hopefully today's game between West and Linn Mar will turn out to be a classic.
Will be interesting to see if Marcus can carry the team to victory or if
Morgan, Alexander, and Louhaus prevail!
(Game will be televised at 3:15pm today for those unable to attend)

You were correct masoncity.......West won't beat Ankeny because they won't have the opportunity to play them. Maybe next year.

What conference is better top to bottom?

MVC or CIML?

I am from Eastern Iowa (iowa city) and don't know much about the CIML teams.

West has some really athletic kids. Not sure how they are going to slow down Woodbury, but Bergman is arguably the best defensive basketball coach in the state of Iowa so I am sure he has something up his sleeve.

The other game today was the classic. After half time West turned it on and Linn Mar had no answer. Pretty boring 2nd half. Tomorrow night will be interesting. West didn't have much of a crowd there.
