Northwestern has plays for both their talented quarterbacks. From what I've seen from Beathard.. I'm not sure the Hawks shouldn't be doing something similar to at least attempt to open up the damn run game.
Urban Meyer almost pulled preseason 1st team all American Braxton Miller late in the first half vs NW according to his interview yesterday. But, at Iowa, Jake Rudock shall never be pulled, even if Iowa loses the rest of their games? This is the feeling I am getting...that somehow putting in Beathard, even just to try to rally for a win, is simply out of the question. Other teams do it all the time...at Iowa, not allowed, as our program is more successful than the rest, I guess. We are not about to stoop to changing qbs simply to win a game...that is beneath us.
There is a big difference in playing Senior QB Guiton who has started and won games with his arm and playing a freshman QB in Beathard against the best defense in the country who is only 1-3 against WMU in garbage time.
It would be nice to see the back up get a series here and there. You never know. Hell, we might have the next Tom Brady sitting on the bench. Beathard appears to have some pretty good upside. Both qbs are young. Play'em both. It is quite obvious Iowa is going nowhere this year. Let's find out who the players are in game situations.Rudock started slow...just like Drew Tate did just about every single week in 2004 and Ricky Stanzi for his first year and a half. No, I don't think about a change at QB.

While I agree that Jake has been good, he is rated as the #9 QB in the league, #80 in the country. That is respectable, but does not make him untouchable. So, under your concept, Jake will never be pulled from a game, and Iowa could lose the next 6 without giving CJ a look?

I like Jake, I think he is doing well for the most part, but he does need to work on his deep ball. He missed a wide open Cotton Saturday for what would've been a huge play.

No I DO NOT THINK THE QB JOB SHOULD REOPEN!!! This is a stupid thread.
He doesn't have the strongest arm. But you don't have to to be able to complete successful passes downfield. You need timing. He'll get there.
I think what fans are afraid of is that Jake is the QB for the balance of this season and for the following 2 seasons, REGARDLESS OF HOW HE PERFORMS. I hope he matures into an All American QB. But...
On the flip side, if he doesn't perform and win football games, I hope other options are considered.
Recent history has showed us that Ferentz is more than willing to flush a season, rather than try something different.
He was open...He had a step on him, maybe a half step. It was a foot overthrown. We do need to continue to work on the deep throw....for sure. But wide open?
Why so afraid to try Beathard?
