Anthony Tucker

Does anyone really think that Tucker is going to play again this year? I think he should, but coach Dale seems to have his own way of doing things.

Lick has a set of expectations for Tucker to return. Let the kid earn his way back! No dismissal. You have to remember that he has let the team down and it takes awhile to trust again.

Whatever those expectations are, either they've been met or they haven't. If they're met, let him play. If not after all this time, time to cut him loose and free up the scholarship. Hope he gets his head screwed on straight, but it's not the UI's responsibility to keep him in school, it's his own.

This has been said before in response to those thinking that Lick is just dicking around with Tucker: Lick has no responsibility to be straightforward with us about when Tucker will play. Just because his comments about it are wishy-washy doesn't mean he hasn't been 100% honest with Tucker behind closed doors. For all we know, Tucker knows exactly when he's going to get to play again. He hasn't been causing problems or making acid-laced comments to the press. He certainly looks like he and Lick have a perfectly clear understanding. And Tucker is the ONLY one that Lick is obligated to be straightforward with about this.

Also, you think that maybe it would be a good idea to not advertise the date that he'll come back, therefore letting that team gameplan for him? Just another reason to be noncommital to the press.

That's gotta be it, he's going to be our secret weapon.

That's just a random thought. Or perhaps Lick thinks that by giving us te daily update on where Tucker is in his "rehab" (so to speak), it would create a much larger distraction than it has been. I don't think he's just jerking him around.

I don't think Lick is just jerking Tucker around either. OTOH most college athletes that get into trouble are either given fixed suspensions or dismissed. It's not clear to me that the "we'll continue to evaluate" suspension can lead to anything successful for either Tucker or the team.

IMHO, it's time to either work Tucker back into the playing rotation, or dismiss him from the program and move on. I don't see the point in keeping him in the doghouse indefinitely (unless you count Lick's seeming need to have someone in there at all times).

If Lickliter was going to dismiss him from the program, he would have done it by now. No reason to string the kid along.

I don't remember any fixed suspensions for the Tenn. players. They all came back at different times. The only fixed suspension I can think of this year was with McDermott and we all know how that worked out. He had to bring the kid back early. Not a good thing IMO

McDermott also announced it to the media, and that was his mistake. If he had just said that Colvin was suspended indefinitely, it wouldn't have been such a big deal.

That being said, I don't remember any huge backlash from the Register when he re-instated the kid two weeks early.

Normally I'd agree, but recall Lickliter was very interested in seeing Anthony succeed in life and that his education was a big deal for Lickliter. He might be stringing him along to give him a chance to get an education. Not smart on the side of schollies, but you never know.

I'm just surprised he hasn't seen the floor for at least a couple minutes at minimum.

Maybe, but how much of an education is Tucker going to get in two years? If Lickliter shows him the door after the season, what are the chances that Tucker gets another scholarship somewhere else?

Let me ask you guys and gals an honest question about Tucker. If, and I'm saying IF, Tucker transfers at the end of the season what are you going to think? Does Lick get a pass because the kid had two public intox suspensions or does Lick get criticized for running another kid with potential off?

Here is my take: I think Lick is jerking Tucker around. I think he is telling him one thing to his face and through the media but truly has no intention of playing him. He may 'play' him but I doubt he gets any real playing time before the end of the season. Then in a sit down (quite similar to Freeman, Peterson, Angle and Palmer) he tells the kid that it's his way or the highway and the kid chooses the highway.

Now obviously this is just a theory and I'm really not interested in what some of you think of my theory but I am curious to know what your reactions will be if this comes true.

I should have stopped reading right there.

Don't know whether this is what is going on or not, but I have to admit the same thoughts have crossed my mind.

Here's what I know: no one on this board, or any others, knows exactly what has transpired and what has been said between the coach and the player. Two PIs in two years, especially when you were allowed to come back on a short leash, and particularly given the circumstances of the last one, are a major problem. Anthony showed extremely poor judgment, and none of us knows what other issues may or may not be in play. I take the coach at his word that his prime concern is for Anthony's well-being. His welfare, health and education need to be the priorities; basketball can be a distant second.

I am among those who would like to see him get significant playing time yet this year, and if it works out and if he stays clean, to have him finish his final two years here.

But I'm just an outsider looking in, as are all of you

Go figure that 12345 doesn't want his theory challenged....Instead you want to start a debate about a total hypothetical.

How about this 12345, I too have a theory. My theory involves the Hawkeyes making the NCAA tourney next year, and the fact that if this happened you would still be b!tching, moaning and whining about Lick! We would see posts by you about the Hawks winning IN SPITE of Lick. That one tourney appearance in 4 years, he should STILL be fired, blah, blah, blah....

I'll answer your theory. If we make it to the NCAAs next year I would be thrilled. I certainly won't be b!tching, moaning OR whining about Lick. Making the NCAA tournament is the goal. I have never felt that we needed to win the NCAAs or even make the Sweet 16 but it sure would be nice. My expectations annually are a top 25 program with national recognition. We will have up and down years and near misses for the NCAAs but we should NEVER finish worse than .500 in conference.

With all of that said, I'm a realist. We aren't going from the worst 3 years in history to making the NCAAs. The recruits coming in are good but not game changers. We've seen transfers at the end of every season during the past 2 years so history tells us it's highly probable we are going to see it again.

Now answer my question you pansy.
