Another season over

Tired of Alabama.

is Iowa on the upswing? I sure hope so. We will find out next season, I think. Easier schedule. More experience.

is recruiting on the upswing? Seems to be. but will we waste them? That seems to be the problem. We dont coach to their strengths. We try to get them to fit into the system. Sometimes that is a square peg into a round hole.

Time will tell, though.

Given the troubles Davis and Kennedy had implementing their passing scheme and successfully teaching it there would be no guarantee Lazard would have developed the way he did under a completely different system.

The passing scheme implemented this year looked a lot like what Iowa had in the past under KOK. Tight ends exploited the defensive zone and used the middle of the field more effectively than they did under Davis. Receivers were using space a lot better but Stanley needs to improve accuracy beyond intermediate range and receivers need to hang onto the ball, regardless of scheme.
So. Many. Dropped. Passes. Those passes land in his hands and they are positive yardage, end of story.

I read somewhere that if you adjusted Stanley's completion percentage for dropped balls, swatted passes, and throwaways, his percentage jumps up to 72%. Bit of a hypothetical, but if the receivers start to hold on to passes, the will offense look a lot better.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all. I’ve said time and time again that if we decrease the dropped passes by 10% that was a 9-10 win season. We like to give the offensive coordinating a lot of shit, but I think the pass calls were usually pretty good. The dropped passes killed us, but I really hope that improves next season.

Some of that is on Stanley. He needs to develop a little touch on those passes. His passes come in a little hot, whether they need to or not.

Yes, but the saying is "if it hits your hands, you have to catch it". Touch would be helpful, but the receivers still need to do their jobs. Plus, its not like he's Vandenberg, drilling a hole through someone 10 yards away.
